Historically homicide label (and other crimes) is political. Because some homicides (and other crimes) are political.
A white gang in my Chicago inner city neighborhood would shakedown businesses for protection money. They beat-up the elderly owner of the candy store on my block because he would not pay protection. The elderly store owner died of a heart attack 1/2 hour later. I label it homicide. The gang was closely tied with States Attorney Hanrahan. The death was not labeled heart attack, not homicide. No crime of any kind was charged.
That same Hanrahan murdered Fred Hampton 4 blocks south of that store. The murder of Hampton is not in the statistics as a homicide (or any crime).
Chicago political assassinations are conveniently lost in the statistics. Who cares about Lewis, Geisler, Barretto and other assassinations of the past? How many political assassinations occur now and I am not aware of them because I’m no longer on the streets of Chicago?
