Generalization based on limited anecdotes smells of small minds and ignorance. Most immigrants come to United States to better their living standards. The Indians are just more successful at it because they are way more educated than average Americans, are conversant in English, work hard, score the highest grade points in universities, and rarely commit violent crimes.

“USA holds the record in number of serial killers.”

Might be we’re just better at figuring out that there are serial killers at work.

That also, and the fact that vans and guns are very difficult to come by in almost all other countries, which are the tools used by serial killers.

“They’re all here for the money, they stick together, and for the most part look at Americans as “others” who they have targeted for financial exploitation and little else....They don’t get the freedom thing at all.”

Wow! Reading your words was like hearing my own thoughts. Again, wow! You obviously get it. Sounds to me as though we may have many of the experiences with “immigrants”. Your comment can only be the result of experience. Too bad we can’t throw our politicians and elites into the same pit to experience the same thing. If we could, they would shut down the borders, deport every last illegal alien and enforce every anti-illegal immigration law on the books overnight. Hell, they’d probably build Trump’s wall with armed guards, machine gun towers and landmines overnight.

Just a thought.

“Generalization based on limited anecdotes smells of small minds and ignorance. “

Yeah, that’s the ticket! I guess that’s similar to the ignorance and small-mindedness of you commenting on posts of people you don’t know. So either impressions do count or your own complaint is self-refuting and therefore stupid.

But that aside, I live in a part of America where I have plenty of contact with Indian nationals and I find talisker’s opinion matches some of my own impressions of our Dot-Indian imports. Sorry if that hits home and makes you uncomfortable. And while I can’t recall any violent crimes associated with this crew I am aware that more than a few have made a name for themselves in the world of sophisticated financial crime, a credit to that pursuit of education that you speak of.

I will bet you I have 100 times more contacts with Indians than you had. I served as chair of Greater Chicago India association for a few years and met more Indians than almost anyone.

Aside from that, in my own case, I arrived at age 20 to study for master’s degree in engineering, worked for 37 years in American Industry and a research lab funded by US gov’t. I really hate to brag, but my contributions to my private sector employer caused bankruptcy to all our major competitors. I think I gave way more to this country than I received, which was plenty.

Haha you are comparing financial crimes by likes of Raja Rajnatram and his cohorts with the millions of law abiding Indians with college degrees toiling away in jobs and businesses in United States. Go watch the TV series American Greed. American born criminals outnumber Indian born criminals by 1000:1. There is a saying in Sanskrit, that a fool sees faults in others as small as a sesame seed, but fails to see his own faults the size of walnuts.

The BTK serial killer in Northwest USA specialized in Bind, Torture and Kill. USA holds the record in number of serial killers. There is no worse or better when it comes to rape and murder. They are all despicable, inhuman, barbaric. All perpetrators should be executed ASAP.

There are T.V. shows about that. Criminal Intent gets pretty gory at times.

People haven't changed.

Abraham Lincoln's said: "Human nature can be modified to some extent but human nature cannot be changed."
He would know.

The problem is that
1. there are now 7.1 BILLION folks in the world and
2. we get to hear ALL about the most vicious, heinous crimes LIVE on your local network over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.

It's not surprising that people think that we humans are WORSE than ever.

I guess that explains your eagerness to refer to Americans as being both less intelligent and more criminal than the Americans that you choose to live among. Imagine our good fortune at having you grace us with your excellence. Maybe we will reach India’s level of cultural genius when we too start crapping in the streets and dumping our dead in the Mississippi while we wash and bathe in it as they float by.

I never said anything derogatory about Americans in general. There are close to 300 million American citizens. There are just a few million people of India origin in US. Most of them are cream of the crop from India. So it is easy for them to exceed in financial earnings over average earnings of vast number of American citizens.

I was mainly refuting your post which was generalizing All Indians based on those you have associated with. If I thought Americans were inferior, I can assure you I would not have married an American born woman.

Everyone's got their problems. I admire India greatly, but what you say is true - just not complete. I wouldn't have anyone judge America by the inner cities of this country either, if you get my drift.

Indians in the US, in my experience, are polite to a fault and intelligent. But they are also Indians first and foremost, and certainly have no intention of becoming Americans. Being here is huge professional status and lucrative, so they get while the getting is good, and then return to India for superior employment for having been here. I don't slight them for that - they're making the most of their opportunities, and they work very hard and don't break the law. But there's too much romance about them here. They've come from an inherently tribal, racist, sexist and wealth-stratified society, and they act it out here - politely, quietly, but definitely. And if you're a white American and spend time with them, you will find set limits in your relationship with them - they will make it known. Politely, but definitely. And that's my personal experience, many times.

Most certainly Indian immigrants in US on average are far more educated than average of Americans.

Rest assured if you compare the 1300 Million people in India with 310 million in United States, the US population is far more educated on average.

I don’t disagree with what you’ve said, that matches what I’ve observed. And like so many groups that came after the 1965 immigration act they identify and remain loyal to their homelands, albeit in a more subtle fashion than our La Raza imports. But it’s still there.

I could also do without the likes of Nikki Haley and Neel Kashkari. We have enough homegrown frauds in the GOP without these two adding to the problem.

Then I must be an exception, because I have no close friends from India, all my close friends are non-Indian. I arrived in 1960, was granted in US citizenship in 1970, married a US born American woman, and have zero intention of living in India. There are very few golf courses in India, there is no football, no beef prime ribs, no Caribbean cruises, and I can’t stand crowds!

There’s a reason why some people leave their countries! All countries have great stuff about them, but lots of people never get to take advantage of that, and find their success elsewhere.

And to the extreme - some hate their homelands. My adopted nephew is from Russia. I asked him if he still remembered his Russian language. “A little bit - but I try not to remember it - I haven’t spoken it since I was adopted to the U.S. I will never speak Russian again.” Of course growing up in one of those Russian orphanages will do that to a person.

You wanna hear a true anecdote? When I arrived in Iowa city in September 1960, there was this hit movie called Peyton Place which I had seen in Mumbai theaters 6 months before! I had seen so many American flicks in India, upon arrival in US, I actually felt more at home than in India. I was fluent in English, and people spoke English in all 50 states! Whereas in India, I could not understand a single word of local languages spoken in 50% of India.

Your observations are right on. Basically there are pluses and minuses in every country. The one thing I really miss is cuisine at home. My mother was an accomplished cook, and actually authored a cook book.

Yes, a number of times I've asked Indians what they do when they travel around India as far as language is concerned. They just shrug. When I ask again, they say, "nope, don't understand a word," and they speak multiple languages, usually at least English, Hindi and Bengali and then one or more regional languages from their home town.

But then, India has a billion people. That's a LOT of differentiation over several THOUSAND years. So I give them a lot of slack, but it sure seems weird sometimes from a Western point of view. What's funny is when they agree, "yep, it's weird," but they roll with it, because its just India being India.
