Less than 12 hours after he was booed for not endorsing GOP nominee Donald Trump during his late-night speech before the Republican National Convention, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz isn't backing down.
Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, the Republican vice presidential nominee, headlined Wednesday's event. But all eyes were on Ted Cruz earlier in the evening for his refusal to endorse Donald Trump. POLITICS Pence Makes The Case For Trump After Cruz Is Booed At an emotional event with the Texas RNC delegation Thursday morning, Cruz defended his decision to withhold his endorsement at a time when Republicans are trying to rally around their nominee ahead of the general election.
Sen. Ted Cruz leaves the stage after speaking during the Republican National Convention on Wednesday. POLITICS Trump-Cruz Feud Flares Anew On Third Night Of Convention "I am doing what millions of Americans are doing. I am watching and I am listening. The standard that I apply is, which candidate do I trust to defend the Constitution?" said Cruz.
"I can tell you I am not voting for Hillary," said Cruz, who also said he was "watching" other candidates.
As the GOP primary came down to the two candidates this spring, Trump and his surrogates attacked Cruz's family. That including tweeting an unflattering photo of Cruz's wife and alleging without any firm basis that Cruz's father, Rafael, was involved in the plot to assassinate President John F. Kennedy in 1963.
"I am not in the habit of supporting people who attack my wife and attack my family," said Cruz, who added he would not be "a servile puppy dog" to the Trump campaign.
Vanquished Republican presidential hopefuls, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, also addressed the convention's third night, delivering lukewarm endorsements of Trump.
Cruz said Trump should not have been surprised by the content of his Wednesday night address because the campaign "knew exactly what I was going to say." A preview copy of Cruz's remarks was released to reporters earlier in the evening.
He said it was "dismaying" that Trump supporters booed him from the floor when he encouraged Republicans to "vote their conscience" in November.
The first-term senator emphasized that he has no plans to campaign against Trump this fall. "I don't intend to say negative things about Donald Trump," said Cruz.
Meanwhile on Twitter, Trump criticized Cruz implying that he's encouraging people to vote for Democrats:

You are exactly right. Trump reads people very well. And he understands ego and ambition and he practices “Family First”, ruthlessly, when he feels it’s warranted.
Cruz won’t be a puppy dog, but he has no problem with being a self absorbed skunk.
yup, he’s not a man of his word.
I don’t trust him on anything then.
Cruz is a big fat baby.
This isn’t about you. St. Ted, it isn’t about your Council of Foreign Relations / North American Union wife Heidi Heidi Ho, this isn’t about your weird cultist father and whether or not he was handing out “Hands Off Cuba!” phamplets in New Orleans with Lee Harvey Oswald, this is about the SURVIVAL of America!
So get lost, Cruz, you butthurt ass!
TRUMP / PENCE 2016
"Yap-yap-yap-yap..." (HINT: "I'm 'FOR SALE' as a proxy-hitman for the Hitlery's campaign!")
I dont intend to say negative things about Donald Trump,
Well then, we’ll just have to take you at your word. (sic) What a selfish, clueless, lying a-hole this guy turned out to be!
We just spent two days handwriting over 29 words in Melanias speech, which included the phrase “ your word is your bond”
Ted proved that his word is more like Bondo.
Trump tweeted last night that he knew what Cruz was going to say and that it didn’t make any difference. DOnald Trump is no fool.
IT’s cleear now Cruz was never going to endorse Trump now. If Trump hadn’t have given him a speaking slot he would have gone to the RNC anyway and dropped his stink bomb today. Cruz is fine with the blow back because he wants to steal Trump’s thunder at Trump’s convention.
Ted Cruz's next comment on the coming Kingdom and God vs. Satan:
"Vote your conscience."
IMO, Romney, Cruz and the rest of the never Trumpers are trying to get Gary Johnson up to 15% in the polls and into the debates. Then there is another candidate besides Trump and Hillary on the stage.
Just in case nobody noticed, when Ted made his “vote your conscience” comment, he wasn’t just talking about the Vote for POTUS, he mentioned the down Ballot choices.
In other words, he didn’t support ANY Republicans running this year for any Elected Office, not just the one running for POTUS.
This is Hillary's turn. The GOPe agreed to this years ago, just like they thought it would be great to have a black president. Everyone in the insiders' club still wins, no matter which side has the current president.
Jeb was chosen this time to be the one to pretend to run against Hillary, and allow her to win easily. Romney and McCain were good at these roles, and Jeb would have been great... it would take a huge loser to allow Hillary to squeak by... Jeb was the right man for that job.
Jeb failed miserably at getting the nomination, so the DNC/GOPe team called on Kasich and Ted to be backups to Jeb. Both failed big time.
Ted doesn't realize that game is over... he promised team Hillary/DNC/GOP that he would help Hillary take her rightful place as president and he would be rewarded with a shot down the road, and in the meantime he would be rewarded in other ways (in the Senate).
Unless Trump capitulates and gets on board with our overlords' (DNC/GOP) plan to crown Hillary, they will resist him with everything they have. Trump refuses to give in... he sincerely wants to help America and not the insiders' club.
Ted's just part of the problem with Washington... he must go.
A Texas poll conducted about 3 weeks showed Cruz at 43%.
He poll numbers will drop even further.
And that will encourage primary competition.
Cruz encouraged voters to vote for Hillary by “voting their conscience” so that he might have a better shot at 2020.
Cruz is a selfish bastard.
“Hes betting the house that Trump loses.”
That’s exactly what that traitor is doing. But if Hillary gets in for 4/8 years, then there won’t be country remaining for Rafael to govern in the EXTREMELY unlikely event anyone would still want Cruz as the GOP nominee in 2020.
Either Cruz is actually out-and-out stupid or his ego is so large he cares only about himself and zero about the fate of our county. Or both.
Ted Cruz is TRULY despicable.
the liar loser freak evil cruz is worried about his family???? WHAT BOUT ASHLEY MADISON AND THE 5 OTHER HOOCHIE HOS U HAD.....UR A SICK PUPPY...
It is kind of hard for a guy who has lied as much as Ted has and who has played the negative attacks on his opponent’s family members, to now claim the moral high ground by performing ANOTHER dubious act - going back on his word and playing games with the future of the nation.
Please run again Ted, so we can reiterate just how displeased we are with you.
HE PLANNED THIS ALL OUT LAST WEEK WHEN HE WAS ON AIR FORCE ONE WITH OBAMA
