Report: '95 percent probability' of Pence as Trump VP
The Hill ^ | 7/10/2016 | Jessie Hellman

Indiana scheduled for Tuesday is raising speculation that the presumptive Republican nominee will announce Gov. Mike Pence as his running mate.

The Washington Times reported Sunday evening that Pence has a “95 percent probability” of being Trump's choice, according to sources close to the campaign and to the governor.

The first-term Indiana governor’s name has surfaced in recent weeks as a contender for the position. Pence tepidly endorsed Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas before the state's May primary, but later backed Trump, praising the chance to "take a new direction" in Washington. "The kind of leadership that I truly do believe, to borrow a phrase, will make America great again," Pence said during a Thursday campaign stop, according to The Associated Press.

Others said to be under consideration for vice president are former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Sen. Jeff Sessions of Alabama.

Trump has said he will make an announcement before the Republican National Convention, which begins on July 18. Pence, who is seeking reelection to a second term as governor, would have to withdraw from that contest by noon on July 15 if he’s going to run as Trump’s vice president.

Former Trump adviser Michael Caputo said Sunday he's putting all his chips on an announcement at the event next week.

"Right guy. Right timing. Right place #TrumpPence2016,” he tweeted.

He needs somebody that will help him win Florida.

****************

He really needs someone that can help him win the swing states. Here are seven that
some agree upon and their maybe more.

The seven states are Colorado, Florida, Nevada, Ohio, and Virginia, all of which backed
Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama two times each, and Iowa and New Hampshire,
which voted Democratic in three out of the last four elections.

Another listing includes the following:

I’ll be SO happy when Trump finally makes his VP pick so we can end these pointless, inane posts speculating on who Trump should pick for VP, and get on with the far more important pointless, inane posts speculating about why Trump should or should not have picked whomever he picked for VP.

If he chooses Pence, it’s to shore up Republican support. Trump needs to get 95% of Republicans to win.

Sorry, sunset, we don't use micro-aggressive terms like "republican" around here anymore. mccane and ryan are republicans, so is Palin and Reagan. So the term is meaningless.

So, let's talk establishment-GLOBALIST vs populist-nationalist. Not too sure your pense guy would draw many votes there.

Yeah, except for the fact that he used to be a talk show host and he runs the most conservative state administration in the country.

If its Pence I think we'll understand Trump's reason for selecting him. I trust Donald's judgement and with Pence he hasn't been out on the BIG stage as Newt for people to BASH him on several issues they were wrong about.

The meeting at the governors house when Bobby Knight came into Indiana to help must have been a HECK of a meeting. Pence could possibly work well with Donald.

I have seen Pence talk to a graduating class around 10 tens ago and back then I was very impressed with him!

He was a talk show host before going into politics.

Pence Is a Devout Christian & Approved the 'Religious Freedom Law'.

Worried about our military and traveled to Iraq and Afghanistan.

Some little known facts.

The only benefit to Pence is that he would make the GOPe office holders happy and they’d be more likely to weakly climb on board. The down side is that he is not from an important battleground state...he has little curb appeal as someone said earlier, but I’m not sure that’s necessary. In Trump’s situation, uniting the establishment wing (as Reagan did with Bush...though he became an enormous disaster later) or someone who can increase the odds in a crucial state, or ideally both, are the indespensible factors.

I agree with you. Pence used to be a frequent guest on the talk shows and was a very articulate spokesperson. He also understood the media. He walked away from House leadership positions n 2010 and chose to come back to Indiana in 2012. Since the 2010 decision, he has not appeared much in the media.

He is very intelligent and charismatic and articulate, at least before 2010. I assume he can be these things again.

If the news is true, I am extremely disappointed.

Pence has been a pretty crappy Governor of my home state. I don’t see anything he adds to the ticket.

I agree. He is my governor now and some might see charisma but to me it comes across as very fake and scripted.

Gingrich has too many selfish brain farts...and you know what I mean. It’s like he’s 100 mph in the right direction then he switches his own track and derails.

So he makes an awful leader but a good team player when working on a unified plan... Honestly, Gingrich wouldn't bother me, it'd be the capper to his career and he's more than willing to roll up the sleeves and dive into the trenches on legislation.

Pence - seems too safe, lacks the Washington knowledge, not even on the first page of my picks. Sessions is just fine where he is in the senate.

Honestly, I can't say I really care who he picks. Once he's elected, it will finally be congress against the president, with most of congress running to the liberal side anyway. We thought gridlock happened before? Won't be anything like the legislative tug-o-war that will come.

Again, I'm really good with that. Means Trump will have great opportunities to clean house throughout the executive branch while congress fights between themselves to see who can give amnesty first.

"The first-term Indiana governor’s name has surfaced in recent weeks as a contender for the position. Pence tepidly endorsed Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas before the state's May primary"

The man is not fit for office and will turn off 1/2 of Trump's supporters.
