Some of these boneheads just have a hard time believing that anything so cool could have happened without their being a part of the world yet.
Not to mention thousands of amateur astronomers asking, "Where is it? I can't see it." during the 3 day transit period.
“As an actual percentage of believers they are NOT more common, just easier to find.”
I’m not so sure. I think they are more common.
I think the things you point out also correspond with more belief in these things. They feed on each other.
Maybe there are studies done that can answer this question.
I tried to watch it again recently. Sigh. Terrible movie, but has some great visuals.
What happened twenty-five years ago that I'm missing?
It’s just a matter of math. If 1% of the population believes in some kooky thing that’s a lot more people when your population is 320 million than when it’s 160 million. And then there’s the gris gris factor, everybody has something they believe that’s a little off. Whether it’s a lucky pair of shorts, or one of those oddball (and BS) factoids that run around like dogs having perfect memory. Some of us take our oddball belief to a high extreme and we join some conspiracy theory, but those have always been out there. Look up the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, a lot of antisemitic stuff today comes straight out of there still. In a complex world where people tend to feel powerless conspiracy theories play, heck just look at the thread going on here right now about the “summer of chaos” “plan” to result in martial law and Obama staying in office. People love that stuff. Dems were sure Bush was going to have an “October surprise” 8 years ago, and 8 years before that many here thought Clinton would have one. But in the end everybody moved on when nothing happened. People want to believe there’s a reason life is complicated, even if only for long enough to read a goofy internet post, it’s relaxing.
So you believe in "They"? Tells us more about "Them." Go ahead, feel free to talk. Let it out, you're among friends here...
I thought I was the only one who didn’t like the movie, at least on this thread. It was on late-night TV recently, and I lasted about 15 minutes before I had an urge to paint a wall and watch it dry as a wake-up call.
Oh please. Several nations tracked the mission including the USSR.
These clowns are the original moonbats.
If you look at some of the images of the astronauts on the moon you can make out in the distance a 65 Chevy Nova belonging to one of the studio crew. In others you can see a guy not in a spacesuit taking a photo reflected in the visor of Buzz Aldrin’s helmet.
#23 If you played back the Beatles records from the Magical Mystery Tour you would have heard the news.
#32 Don’t worry they put the lasers on stun.
How many millions feral, state, and local gummint workers are there? And STILL Barry 0blah-blah pulled the wool over *their* eyes. Ears. Minds. The only component of any gimmint project that matters is Final Control. Of the 600,000 grunts involved in Apollo, how many were intimately involved in the very last stage of the project?
Few of those were government employees.
Ya think? Do you suppose they operated and controlled the Final Stage of Apollo?
In 1969, was it possible to manipulate tracking? Telecommunications could certainly be fudged.
The potential problems with Apollo are many, including radiation from the Van Allen Belt. DOES it present a scientific problem for astronauts surviving it?
Look -- The biggest problem we face is in retrospect til this very day is a credibility of a government that's always been taken for granted as at least *mostly* truthful. That equation has changed; It's PROVEN to have habitually lied to us, depending on memes that cynics are nothing but "kooks." From the Feral Reserve to Pearl Harbor to WWII/Stalin/Patton/FDR Commies to the Globalist UN/NWO, to JFK, both questionable Iraq Wars, to 0bama and Hillary evading justice, and so forth.
His Assassination and all the BS cover ups, including autopsy, single-bullet theory, several suspects theory, Jack Ruby, The Warren Commission, sealed, aka "buried" records, etc.
To accept ANYTHING the feral gummint declares as unchallenged otherwise cynics are painted with the "kook" label is exactly the ONLY weapon they have to repel any and all scrutiny.
This reticence in challenging gummit events and edicts and THE reason we find ourselves at the precipice of a law-less Republic with a dead Constitution.
The SAME people who laughed off and ridiculed a "New World Order", "Black Helicopters," and criticism of the Bushes as "globalists RINOs" just eight years ago are singing a different tune today, aren't they?
The "Moon Landings"?? Yeah, well MAYBE. Sorry I don't share your absolute confidence in a gummint that's now totally FUBARed the pooch. When Justice and Constitutional Law become a Hoax, Presidents' records are SEALED and Impeachments are called off, it may be time to reassess the REST of what you've been told is "truth."
Van Allen Belt.... HEH HEH,
Michael Rivero would strongly disagree.........(Way before your time Simpson)
Oops. I apparently was thinking of LOIRP.
The Lunar Orbiter Imaging Recovery Project.
Among other things, they restored the first Earthrise pictures.
All of those people want to fooled. Nobody in the Apollo program did. Besides, it took a lot of 24/7 manpower to support the mission. Tracking was done by stations all over the world; not very centrally located.
how many were intimately involved in the very last stage of the project?
Thousands, all around the world. You seem to completely unaware of the state of the art in communications and computing in those days.
Do you suppose they operated and controlled the Final Stage of Apollo?
The final stages of Apollo were manned almost exclusively by employees of North American Rockwell, Lockheed, Martin Marietta, Boeing, IBM, Sperry Rand, MIT, JPL, Bell Telephone, so on and so on. As I said earlier, you don't have a clue about what it took to fly Apollo with the technology of the time. (I do, since that was current events for me.)
The potential problems with Apollo are many, including radiation from the Van Allen Belt. DOES it present a scientific problem for astronauts surviving it?
The Van Allen belts are not as radioactive as you seem to believe. They are mostly alpha and beta particles -- charged particles. The crew was protected by the aluminum and ceramic shell of the spacecraft. Furthermore, the trajectory of the launch carried the spacecraft in a direction that flew only through a small portion of the Belts. (The Belts are shaped like a doughnut, the trajectory stayed inside close to Earth near the hole.) That portion was a low intensity region and the craft stayed there for only about ten minutes. The astronauts experienced radiation equivalent to one chest X-ray. Yes, science was used to plan the shield and flight to minimize the exposure. Studies of the Van Allen Belts commenced around 1957, and many many other parallel scientific studies preceded Apollo. There were numerous unmanned probes long before any man went to the moon, and there were even automated landers before Apollo.Scientific methods were used extensively in the preparation of manned flight in Earth orbit and then to the moon. You can read about it; however, some people prefer to follow new-age legends rather than actual science.
In 1969, was it possible to manipulate tracking? Telecommunications could certainly be fudged.
No, it was not. The earth is roundish, and the flight lasted for several days. There had to be numerous tracking stations all around the world which were not manned by government personnel. Tracking was also performed by the Navy as well as the Soviet Union, France, Germany, and England. Nobody reported anomalies, and followed the spacecraft through its entire flight including orbiting the moon.
The biggest problem we face is in retrospect til this very day is a credibility of a government that's always been taken for granted as at least *mostly* truthful. That equation has changed...
Politics has always been a problem. The engineering community of the entire Nation was not afflicted by politics then or now. It would be easier to keep cell phones and GPS satellites secrets over Apollo.
Most of what disappoints you is a recent thing. The men involved with Apollo are the ones who built the aircraft and ships of WWII and the ICBMs of the cold war. I can assure you, ICBMs could fly just fine. Apollo was an offshoot of the same hardware.
If she wanted to have some real fun, she should start citing transparently BS reasons.
