Washington, D.C. Select Committee on Benghazi Chairman Trey Gowdy (SC-04) released the following statement after the committees Majority released a mark of its investigative report:
Chris Stevens, Sean Smith, Glen Doherty and Tyrone Woods were heroes who gave their lives in service to our country. Their bravery and the courageous actions of so many others on the ground that night should be honored.
When the Select Committee was formed, I promised to conduct this investigation in a manner worthy of the American peoples respect, and worthy of the memory of those who died. That is exactly what my colleagues and I have done.
Now, I simply ask the American people to read this report for themselves, look at the evidence we have collected, and reach their own conclusions. You can read this report in less time than our fellow citizens were taking fire and fighting for their lives on the rooftops and in the streets of Benghazi.
The committees proposed report is just over 800 pages long and is comprised of five primary sections and 12 appendices. It details relevant events in 2011 and 2012.

Nobody is going to read this 800-page report. The media headlines this morning are all about the committee finding “no evidence of wrongdoing” by Mrs. Clinton. They will run with that and everything else will be ignored. The NY Slimes is calling the whole thing “bitterly partisan”. There will be faux outrage from the candidate herself at any moment.
I hope the FBI has the goods on her, but this ‘report’ appears to be just another whitewash.
Gowdy is doing a remarkably good job in the presser, answering questions.
Cursory reading on my part (not of the report directly) assigns a conflict between Panetta (send help) and the State Department. No help was sent. No individual in State is named.

In his remarks, Panetta said the initial reports of the attack were given almost immediately to the U.S. Embassy in the Libyan capital of Tripoli.
Within 17 minutes, Panetta said, an unarmed, unmanned surveillance aircraft was dispatched to give U.S. officials a better idea of what was happening. It arrived at the site about 70 minutes after the attack, he said.
Soon, Panetta and Dempsey met with President Barack Obama, the secretary told lawmakers.
Obama ordered that the Defense Department respond to the attack with all available DOD assets and try to protect U.S. personnel, Panetta said.
At that 5pm meeting with Panetta and Demsey is where I'd expect the 'update' to the order should have been given being the chain of command is aware of a phone call from Libya,

Now with respect to Libya, as I indicated in the last debate, when we received that phone call, I immediately made sure that, number one, that we did everything we could to secure those Americans who were still in harms way;
But as many times as we see Panetta in the media, he is never asked when he got the order and what he did to comply.
The report has only a political purpose. My takeaway is that the government is worse than incompetent, it is evil.
My reaction to the press is the same. It is worse than incompetent, it is evil.
House investigation into arms running was shut down by government.
Allow me to summarize the entire response from the media on this report:
Meh...
Presser questions.
Questions from reporters seem to have one purpose: protect Clinton.
[Can’t hear the actual questions, so will have to wait for the transcript, thus this is based on the respondents’ replies.]
Call me jaded and cynical, but if Gowdy couldn’t figure out who signed those two eight-hour-life-and-death-fighting Marines’ death warrant, what the hell good is his report?
The over-site prior to the attack is where Clinton has the most job responsibility. Either this consulate’s existence was micromanaged by someone above Clinton and she had confidence in that or the duties and responsibilities on on her. Clinton might be asked to clarify her role in that respect.
But could this also give “ammo” to one DJT?
I am getting the feeling that this investigation will be celebrated for it’s own sake. No one will be held responsible.
Call me jaded and cynical too. If his report did contain the name of the person who "signed the death warrant" (and a command for inaction is apt to be in unwritten form), his report would have the same impact - it will be spun, by the press, as a partisan witchhunt, and according to the report, Obama and Hillary did a great job, under the circumstances.
The government is totally out of control, corrupt, and in my mind, lacks all legitimacy. It exists purely as a function of force of violence.
I don’t care how it’s spun. The name should be in the report. Those two Marines fought heroically—beyond heroically—for eight hours. Someone in a position of safety and comfort made certain that battle would end with their deaths; no one can hold out forever. The least, the VERY least, Gowdy owed those Marines, their families and the American people is the name of the person whose order resulted in their deaths.
Didn’t Gowdy threaten to retire? It will be great when he is gone beacuse I’ve had enough of his beltway kabuki theater.
CNN headline - GOP lead committee finds no evidence of Hillary Clinton wrongdoing.
CNN hasn't gotten around to fixing its headline. Benghazi report: Hillary Clinton should have realized risks
If the people can’t sort that much out, and in spite of all that is on hillary’s record and in spite of all that obama has done, if hillary is elected, this country will not be fit to live in.
They can’t seem to sort out the kind of person Trump is and the kind of person hillary is.
The press at that benghazi conference, were hillary supporters... they are guilty of treason and that used to be a punishable offense. nothing is punishable any more, unless you are a good patriotic citizen.
