If Islam is a Religion of Violence, so is Christianity
Foreign Policy, the Global Magazine of News and Ideas ^ | June 14, 2016 | Julia Ioffe

Speaking after “appreciating the congrats” on the Orlando shootings, Donald Trump again insisted that what mowed people down at Pulse was not an assault rifle but radical Islam, because in Trump Tower, it cannot be both. Trump’s world is binary. It is zero-sum: Either guns kill people or radical Islam kills people. In that world, only one religion can be bad, and so Christianity is good and Islam is bad. Christianity is peaceful and Islam violent. Christianity is tolerant and Islam intolerant. Both are inherently one thing or the other, immutable blueprints etched in stone for the behavior of their respective adherents ...

... No religion is inherently violent. No religion is inherently peaceful. Religion, any religion, is a matter of interpretation, and it is often in that interpretation that we see either beauty or ugliness — or, more often, if we are mature enough to think nuanced thoughts, something in between.

Marking all religions as equal saves the left from having to analyzed the evil inherent in Islam.

No religion is inherently violent.

Read the New Testament.

No religion is inherently violent.

Read the koran.

Now, Julia, say again, "No religion is inherently violent, " with a straight face.

When your a liberal or Islamist apologist you morally equivocate and engage in whataboutism. It’s what you do!

It is so frustrating to try to reason with liberals. They really are mentally ill.

The New Testament does not command violent actions on non believers. The Koran does. People who were professing Christianity and acting this way were acting against the dictates of their faith. Muslims are acting in accordance with it.

Just as I suspected, another liberal self loathing Jew.

She might as well write for the New York Slimes. She’ll fit right in.

Equivocating about right and wrong in order to appease devils is what got us to the point we are today.

Maceman wrote: “Sorry, liberals. There’s only 1 interpretation of Islam - Muhammad’s.”

Absolutely correct, because it is the core confession of Islam. I quote: “There is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is his prophet.” There aren’t any other prophets. This is really not hard to grasp, unless you refuse to do so.

Finally, the corresponding truth is that there is only one interpretation of Christianity - Christ’s. This too is something the majority, even of self-identifying Christians, do not seem to get.

What do the two points above tell us about the nature of man?

Yeah, look who’s talking about zero sum. Liberals are determined to convince us all that, no matter what happens, it’s the gun, the whole gun and nothing but the gun.

So just one question: Why not push for the total disarmament of every government - state, local, federal - employee issued a gun? Waiting for a response.

B'shazzar, my friend, you're right. And even better, is to directly compare the founders, Muhammad and Jesus Christ. A more dramatic display of opposites can scarcely be imagined.Z

Yes, there have been aggressive, even murderous Christians. A study of history will make this sickeningly clear. But here's the difference: as Christians become more devout and more Christ-like, they become morally better and better: even to the extent of the seemingly humanly impossible, loving their enemies. As Muslims become more devout and more "Mohammedan," --- more like their founder --- they become morally worse and worse.

There are certainly morally upright Muslims who have been loving God and other people their whole lives. I know some. Let's keep that in mind. But if they begin to actually take the Koran, the Hadith, Shari'a and Jihad seriously --- if they come to take their "ideal man," Muhammad, seriously --- they are on the path to the demonic and are a menace to a just and peaceable society.

JQA nailed it 200 years ago

John Quincy Adams on Islam

In the seventh century of the Christian era, a wandering Arab of the lineage of Hagar, the Egyptian, combining the powers of transcendent genius, with the preternatural energy of a fanatic, and the fraudulent spirit of an impostor, proclaimed himself as a messenger from Heaven, and spread desolation and delusion over an extensive portion of the earth. Adopting from the sublime conception of the Mosaic law, the doctrine of one omnipotent God; he connected indissolubly with it, the audacious falsehood, that he was himself his prophet and apostle. Adopting from the new Revelation of Jesus, the faith and hope of immortal life, and of future retribution, he humbled it to the dust, by adapting all the rewards and sanctions of his religion to the gratification of the sexual passion. He poisoned the sources of human felicity at the fountain, by degrading the condition of the female sex, and the allowance of polygamy; and he declared undistinguishing and exterminating war, as a part of his religion, against all the rest of mankind. THE ESSENCE OF HIS DOCTRINE WAS VIOLENCE AND LUST: TO EXALT THE BRUTAL OVER THE SPIRITUAL PART OF HUMAN NATURE.

Between these two religions, thus contrasted in their characters, a war of twelve hundred years has already raged. That war is yet flagrant; nor can it cease but by the extinction of that imposture, which has been permitted by Providence to prolong the degeneracy of man. While the merciless and dissolute dogmas of the false prophet shall furnish motives to human action, there can never be peace upon earth, and good will towards men. The hand of Ishmael will be against every man, and every man’s hand against him. It is, indeed, amongst the mysterious dealings of God, that this delusion should have been suffered for so many ages, and during so many generations of human kind, to prevail over the doctrines of the meek and peaceful and benevolent Jesus (Blunt, 1830, 29:269, capitals in orig.)

Utter CRAP!

If all the people in the world conducted themselves in their lives as Jesus did in His WHAT WOULD THE WORLD BE LIKE?

Conversely if all the people in the world conducted themselves as muhammad did during his life...what would the world be like?

He’s absolutely right! Just look at all the mosques being burned by Christians; the Muslims being beheaded; the gay people being thrown off buildings by Christians; the Christian suicide bombers and those stabbing defenseless Jews. Need I go on...?

Christian violence against gays:

Refused to issue a "marriage" license to gays who could not legally marry under her state's laws

Refused to bake a custom wedding cake for gays who could not legally marry in their state

Refused to host a gay "wedding" at their home, which also served as a B&B

This week's Islamic violence against gays:

Shot over 100 gay people and pledged allegiance to ISIS

Anyone sane would recognize the false comparison. The word "violence" is used very differently when describing violent Christians than when describing violent Muslims.

Well, Mahomet did claim that the other Biblical prophets (including Jesus) were prophets of “Allah”, but that he himself was to be the final prophet of that sock-puppet “god” of his.

For someone who allegedly could not read, Mahomet was certainly adept at completely rewriting several books of the Bible, though.

You have to make this argument from a perspective that allows for a certain fudging of the facts. Take out the "inherently" and the "historically" from the argument if you want to live in the real, present-day world. Muslims are killing people in droves. Christians aren't. That is an observable fact. There really is a problem there, and its name is Islam.

The author is perfectly correct in that one can find violence in the behavior of the followers even of Buddhism if one looks hard enough. It's also entirely irrelevant.
