Waiting for our apology Mr. _resident.
Only ten? And Japan has never acknowledged them nor have they apologized for them.
Did Japan ever apologize for their barbarian, savage, ghoulish behavior during the War? They behaved as badly as ISIS.
Unit 731 was not exceeded by anyone anywhere in WWII in sheer cruelty. Watch the movie “man behind the sun” if you can stomach it.
It’s a literal account of what happened there.
There’s a lot of footage of Japanese doctors torturing prisoners and civilians. Japs should be forced to watch these films.
In October 43' there were still 98 American POW's on Wake Island when the US Navy conducted an airstrike.
In retribution, they were blindfolded and taken to the north side of the island and machine gunned.
One escaped long enough to carve the Wake Island Rock to let people know what happened but was soon captured and beheaded.
When my daughter was in 8th grade (in Hawaii) her history teacher went on and on about the horrors of the atomic bombings.
I finally convinced her to ask about these specific Japansese atrocities. He just asked her where she heard about them. When she told him that her dad told her he said, “How does he know?”
She told him I wanted to be a history teacher (I no longer do). At that point he said the school didn’t think they (the students) were mature enough to hear/see/read about these things and that they would learn them in high school. But at the same time they were watching films about the Holocaust. When she got to HS they never heard of it there either.
Her teacher was of Japanese descent.
I caddied with a man on the battan death march. Is this whom our pos apologized for?
Fubo.
Ramree was a better story crocodile vs japs.
In discussion about Hiroshima at work the other day, a young man said, wow, but that was 200,000 people in one day! He is a Iraq veteran, but I was astounded at the perspective that is lost on younger people who perhaps did not know people or who had family members who fought in the war, relaying how many were slaughtered at the hands of the Japanese. They started it. We finished it. And that should have been the end of it.
There is a good documentary regarding the Nanking massacre on Netflix.
I surprised that the Japanese reprisals on Chinese civilians for assisting the escape of the Doolittle Raiders isn’t on there. Casualties for that were far in excess of the 10 items in the list.
PFL
Yet HE, as well as many millennials think we need to apologize for Nuking Hiroshima& Nagasaki.
Maybe I should print copies of this article. I could stand on the sidewalk in front of the Japanese consulate and hand them out to people, including Japanese people.
The elderly in the Philippines tell stories of Japanese soldiers storming through neighborhoods, taking Filipino babies and throwing them into the air, aimed to land on boards with nails driven through them. Don’t know if this is true or not, but those stories are told.
I used to have a book THE HIDDEN HORRORS OF WW II. Fascinating reading of what the Japs got away with.
They even murdered German Moravian missionaries.
I just bought a DVD THE MEN BEHIND THE SUN. Brutal! Also got the rape of Nanjing by the same producers. Haven’t worked up to seeing it yet, the film Nanjing, Nanjing was rough enough.
Whatever psychological structures we contain in our heads, that of FUNDAMENTALISM is the most pathological, whether religious fundamentalism or political fundamentalism or social fundamentalism or, in this case, Samurai cultural fundamentalism. Fundamentalism is a form of nostalgia for an imagined “ideal” past or some sort of purity of intention. But in every case, one of its main pillars is “the ends justify the means”.
Meanwhile we're supposed to feel guilty because of the atom bombs and because the Japanese-Americans were put in camps, not the Japanese for what they did.
I was aware of what I thought were the more egregious atrocities that Japan did during W.W.II and I find myself even more outraged when I read the list I just saw. I know that is just a small sliver of what happened and yet how could it not make you sick when you read it.
Yet our President feels we are the ones that were in the wrong. When you read atrocities like this you know in another time and era that Japan would have been put to the sword for this and their country wiped out. Yet we had mercy on them and rebuilt their country. I now know why the British that fought them hated them forever even the the great Lord Admiral Louis Mountbatten never forgot or forgave.
