Patti Davis, daughter of late President Ronald Reagan and Nancy Reagan, penned an open letter Thursday to Will Ferrell, criticizing the actor for agreeing to play the 40th president in an upcoming satirical film about his battle with dementia.
I saw the news bulletin as did everyone that you intend to portray my father in the throes of Alzheimers for a comedy that you are also producing, Ms. Davis, a former actress, wrote in her blog. Perhaps you have managed to retain some ignorance about Alzheimers and other versions of dementia. Perhaps if you knew more, you would not find the subject humorous.
Alzheimers doesnt care if you are President of the United States or a dockworker. It steals what is most precious to a human being memories, connections, the familiar landmarks of a lifetime that we all come to rely on to hold our place secure in this world and keep us linked to those we have come to know and love, she continued. I watched as fear invaded my fathers eyes this man who was never afraid of anything. I heard his voice tremble as he stood in the living room and said, I dont know where I am. I watched helplessly as he reached for memories, for words, that were suddenly out of reach and moving farther away. For ten long years he drifted past the memories that marked his life, past all that was familiar
and mercifully, finally past the fear. There was laughter in those years, but there was never humor.

Is Mr. Feral moving to Canada when Trump wins? Maybe he could do a comedy about Bill Clinton’s sex life next.
I am producing a comedy with Al Jolson playing a queer president of the United States - guess which one? Funny, right?
For once in my life, I agree with Patti.
Too bad she wouldn’t support him while he was living.
Indeed
And in that letter there seemed to be a lot of warmth for her father. Time heals
Same here.
When you have someone like Davis speaking out like this (given her own very liberal views), you know how very selfish ones like Ferrell and anyone else involved in this movie really are. At least when Reagan himself was in office, you could at least go and watch movies like “Top Gun” or “Witness” or “The Natural” or “Bull Durham” or “Field of Dreams” or “Working Girl” and be entertained without having perverted liberal ideology rammed down your throat.
Maureen was always my favorite. Things would be very different were she here now. God bless the Reagans.
Really messes with their minds.
Women know when they have a UTI, but elderly men often don't.
Liberals are truly evil and reprehensible. A comedy about Reagan and Alzheimer’s?? Really??? This is a fit subject for comedy???
Hollywood idiots are truly bottom feeders of the earth.
AGREED!!
Another reason why I haven’t been to a movie theater since the last century.
Agreed, well said.
The first Lion King with my young daughter who is now 31 was the last theater go for me.
That’s an interesting observation. I had a cousin who passed away in December (aged 80) and he had dementia but he also had a urinary tract infection that was diagnosed last fall and played a role in the significant decline in his health at the time. Maybe it was unique to his case, but you made me think of how the dementia and UTI may have gone hand in hand in my cousin’s sad decline.
I hear you.
Exactly! I’ve never found Will Ferrell that funny anyway but this is low even for him. Maybe he’d like to do a movie about BO, Bill or Jimmah......uh, never mind......
I sincerely hope they all lose their shirts on this one...I will not see this or any other Ferrell movie...ever!!!!!!
I cannot even comprehend anyone even conceiving of a comedy about Alzheimers, much less attempting to make such a show come to fruition. Farrell has to be lower than any human I’ve ever heard of.
