Trump: I would change GOP platform on abortion
CNN ^ | 04/21/16 | David Wright

Posted on 04/21/2016 10:32:44 AM PDT by writer33

Donald Trump said Thursday he would change the Republican Party platform's position on abortion to include exceptions for rape, incest and the life of the mother.

Trump made the remarks during a town hall on the "Today" show on NBC on Thursday morning when host Savannah Guthrie asked him about abortion exceptions.

"The Republican platform every four years has a provision that states that the right of the unborn child should not be infringed," Guthrie said. "And it makes no exceptions for rape, for incest, for the life of the mother. Would you want to change the Republican platform to include the (abortion) exceptions that you have?"

"Yes, I would. Yes, I would. Absolutely," Trump said. "For the three exceptions, I would."

Currently, the Republican platform abortion policy reads: "We assert the sanctity of human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed."

the last 5 Republican nominees, Bush, Dole, Bush, McCain and Romney having the same exceptions? I don’t remember there being such an uproar.

Absolutely stunning, the sheer number of unswerving and unalloyed conservatives on this very site who -- assuming their yowled outrage to be both consistent and sincere -- must not have voted for ANY of those five Republican presidential candidates, at any point along the way.

The mind fairly reels. ;)

No, everything starts with the blessing of God, or the lack of it. Those who build us a wall build it in vain, if God is not in it. There is no protection from personal moral corruption. God is not mocked. A nation that slaughters its unborn children, then does a calculus of lesser evils to justify continuing the slaughter, “that good may come if it,” is dealing in the perversion of justice, and may rightly expect to feel the hammer of God.

Peace,

SR

“to include exceptions for rape, incest and the life of the mother”

I am against abortion, and also support Trump on this. My main concerns in this election cycle is the economy and jobs, stopping illegal immigration and punishing employers who use illegal labor, and Islamic extremism. For me, abortion, who yells “praise Jesus” the loudest, gay marriage, are not the issues and can be worked after we get a winner and take the Executive. America is focused on the 3 issues I noted, but there are some who do not want to focus on that and instead it’s only pro-life and forget everything else, or it is what church someone goes to and forget everything else, or it’s anti-gay and forget everything else, but I am telling you these later examples are the minority among the base by far the base is about jobs-economy, immigration, terrorism - and anti-establishment. Some in the establishment are 100% pro-life - but also 100% open borders and letting in hordes of illiterates who will never assumilate and drup 6 kids and are pregnant and demand I have my money taken away from me to give to them. A lot of these horders and invaders are also pro-life. And? Well I don’t want them, they are invaders pro-life besides.

In fact, Trump’s position makes me support him even more, and I’ll bet the majority of the base is on the same page.

Reality is the only way abortion will become illegal in this country is when those firmly against it far outnumber those that either support it or think it is none of their business if others get an abortion.

I know many young women now who are firmly against abortion and not bashful to debate on the issue. That gives me far more hope than any elected official. As a contrast when I was in College in the 1970s even women who would never have an abortion thought it was fine if others chose to.

Exactly! Cruz weren’t even come out to punish the mother if abortion was made illegal!

No it does not, you fight to by law save 99.5% and later you expand and by heart try and save the rest.

There will never be NO ABORTION under any circumstances because the public in huge numbers believe in the right to not carry a rapists baby, or their father or uncle’s baby.

If this was fought over properly decades ago we’d only have had .035% of the abortions this country has had IMO.

There are already two amendments to the Constitution that absolutely, explicitly require equal protection for the right to life of the individual innocent person.

And one of those amendments absolutely requires each and every state to provide said equal protection to every person.

It’s not optional.

And President Cruz is going to come in and stop abortions and end the transgender issues because he is against them!

>> You saw what the Dems did to Romney in the 2012 general.

I did.

I also saw that Romney had neither the debate skills nor the fire in his belly to do anything about it. He refused to take the fight to Obama.

Ted Cruz has proven that he will NOT lie down and take it. And he will most definitely take the fight to Hillary.

Another point: do you honestly believe that Trump will somehow get a pass from the same hostile media? And he has far more warts and skeletons for them to work with.

You are correct.

The objective of many Trump supporters seems to be the destruction of the GOP.

They will succeed in that should Trump in win the GOP nomination which seems to be more likely with each passing day.

It is sad that Trump is not held to the same standards as any other person seeking the highest elect office in the land.

This has all of the markings of a cult of personality.

Get ready for Hillary. That’s all I can say.

Those of us who care about the Republican Party and the Conservative Movement will still be around after the November blow out to pick up the pieces and rebuild our Party and our movement after the election.

It’s easy to say it’s not an issue for you, but you don’t have to die in the brutal manner the unborn child does. If born people were dying in such a manner, all of society would call it a number one issue. When it’s the unborn? Eh, the economy is more important.

And do you advocate the punishment of the mother who kills the unborn child?

When Trump did, the Cruz supporters said they would never advocate such a thing!

You guys are such hypocrites.
