With the topic of Saudi Arabia's involvement in the Sept 11 attack on everyone's lips, if certainly not those of president Obama who is currently in Riyadh where he is meeting with members of Saudi royalty in what may be his last trip to the Saudi nation as US president, many have been clamoring for the information in the suddenly notorious "28-pages" (following the recent 60 Minutes episode) to be released to the public so the US population can finally relegate all those "conspiracy theories" surrounding the real perpetrator behind the Sept 11 terrorist attack to the "conspiracy fact" pile.
It won't have to wait that long.
As The Times writes today, new evidence has come to light of a definitive link between Saudi Arabian officials and the 9/11 terrorist attacks "further raising tensions as President Obama travels to the kingdom."
According to the report, Ghassan Al-Sharbi, a Saudi who became an al-Qaida bomb maker, is believed to have taken flying lessons with some of the 9/11 hijackers in Arizona but did not take part in the attacks on New York and the Pentagon that killed 3,000 people in 2001.
He was captured in Pakistan in 2002 and has since been held at Guantanamo Bay. According to a US memo, known as document 17, written in 2003 and quietly declassified last year, the FBI learnt that he had buried a cache of papers shortly before he was captured.
Think of "Document 17" as a mini version of the "28 pages" whose content has yet to be revealed. The document was written by two US investigators examining the possible roles of foreign governments in the attacks.

>>Free Republic sure has changed
America has changed. The institutions that every FReeper would have defended to the death a decade ago have proven to be corrupt and enemies of freedom. Do we continue to pretend that it is still 1989?
I always believed a big part of Dubya’s success in the elections of 2000 and 2004 is that he had the good fortune of running against two of the most reviled liberals of the time.
On the other hand, there is no doubt at all that the republican in congress and the senate would have prevented Gore or Kerry from getting away with some of the things they eagerly helped Dubya implement.
Imagine the republican reaction if Al Gore as president had allowed the Saudis to fly out of America the day after 9/11. Or is he had been the one to keep secret the Saudi involvement with the 9/11 terrorists. Or if he tried to pass the Patriot Act.
Ummm... I guess you mean “go Trump,” right?
Look, man. I see your point but the “institution” is We The People, and there are still a LOT of us fighting for our country and for Constitutional values... And for each other.
Don’t throw it away.
And... No, Desert Storm and OIF were not “for oil,” and no Freeper would ever have said that ten years ago without being laughed off a forum.
>>And... No, Desert Storm and OIF were not for oil, and no Freeper would ever have said that ten years ago without being laughed off a forum.
Well, that’s true. They weren’t “for oil” since we didn’t get any oil. They were for propping up corrupt regimes that sell us oil because we wouldn’t drill for our own oil.
Somehow that doesn’t really sound better. I’d rather invade countries for the good old reasons: land and loot. Instead, we waste money and lives on democracy building as our own Republic circles the drain.
>>Look, man. I see your point but the institution is We The People, and there are still a LOT of us fighting for our country and for Constitutional values... And for each other.
We The People are a shrinking minority in this country. Look, our Constitution is powerless in a Welfare State because people will vote away freedom for free stuff. The Welfare State will only grow as long as the Labor Participation Rate is low and Part Time Labor Rate is high (forget the useless Unemployment Rate). We The People need good, secure jobs before they can worry about concepts that are almost abstract like maximizing “Constitutional values”. When we look out for each other, we need to look out for everyone or the polarization of society will continue to grow.
Your post made me do some kind of handstand. I always look at things indignant at how hard the (what I used to call the) lib media would take everything a republican did, and how hypocritical they were. But as you point out, WE the constitution lovers would have thrown a never ending fit if Gore has sneaked out all the Saudis during the time when Americans couldn’t travel by air. And we didn’t fuss too much (though it was a topic on FR) when Bush did it: we decided to trust him.
Bin Laden Family Evacuated
STAFF CBSNEWS.COM
Sep 30, 2001
Two dozen members of Osama bin Ladens family were urgently evacuated from the United States in the first days following the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington, according to the Saudi ambassador to Washington.
One of bin Ladens brothers frantically called the Saudi Arabian Embassy in Washington looking for protection, Prince Bandar bin Sultan told The New York Times. The brother was sent to a room in the Watergate Hotel and was told not to open the door.
Most of bin Ladens relatives were attending high school and college. The young members of the bin Laden family were driven or flown under FBI supervision to a secret place in Texas and then to Washington, The Times reported Sunday.
Many were terrified, fearing they would be lynched after hearing reports of violence against Muslims and Arab-Americans.
They left the country on a private charter plane when airports reopened three days after the attacks.
King Fahd, the ailing Saudi ruler, sent an urgent message to his embassy in Washington pointing out that there were bin Laden children all over America and ordered, Take measures to protect the innocents, the ambassador said.

We never learn. Back in December, two Afghans were AWOL from training at Moody Air Force Base in Georgia. One was later found and claims to want asylum. Horse hockey. They didn't need to disappear for weeks to ask for asylum. Perhaps the next time we hear about the other will be on a FOX I haven't heard anything about the other.
Re: Your Post #66
Historian James Burke once co-created and hosted a very interesting TV series entitled ‘Connections” in which he traced causes and effects of various events through history.
He could no doubt do a bang-up job tracing the historical genesis of Barack Obama as president and the consequent rise of Donald Trump.
It wasn’t just the Johnson, Nixon, Carter, Bush and Clinton era presidencies (and congress and senates) that brought us to a state where a man like Barack Obama could be elected and a person like Hillary Clinton could get this close to the presidency.
Although they all played a part - republicans and democrats.
Some much more than others.
You might say that America’s critical condition today is a result of bleeding from a thousand cuts.
Some that date back at least to the early part of the 1900’s.
Each time the envelope was pushed and a barrier fell it became easier for the next president, congress and senate to push just a little further.
Sort of analogous to the metaphor of the frog in the slowly heated water.
Most of the time (but not all of the time) it was for short term gain and probably seemed small enough to the culprits that they convinced themselves they weren’t really doing any lasting damage, or at least not bringing about severely damaging, long lasting change.
Most never thought the fable of the Golden Goose could become reality.
Others, like Obama. hoped it would.

Remember this Saudi prince?
Just after 9-11-01, Mayor Rudy Giuliani told Alwaleed to take a hike and refused his check after the Saudi prince publicly insulted the USA.

I’d rather see them hanged as common criminals.
Then their bodies fed to pigs. The pigs fed to dogs. The dog poop collected and sent to the families.
