Warriors reach 73 wins in blowout to set new single-season record

The biggest story of the NBA's regular season has reached its resolution. It ends with the Golden State Warriors holding a 73-9 record, a new league record for wins in a single season.

The Warriors defeated the Memphis Grizzlies 125-104 at Oracle Arena on Wednesday to end the season on a four-game winning streak that puts them one win ahead of the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls for the new mark. If the Warriors can repeat as champions, they will certainly be remembered as one of the greatest teams in NBA history and will be considered a budding dynasty.

This final win concludes a thrilling regular season for Golden State in which they dominated the NBA landscape. They started the year with a record 24 victories in a row, continued a home winning streak that ended with an all-time high 54 straight at Oracle Arena, became the second team to win 70 games in one season and 65 games in consecutive seasons (and the only one to improve on a 65-win season), and avoided losing two games in a row for the first time in league history. They also did it with a style that won fans all over the basketball world, thanks in large part to the dominance of presumptive back-to-back MVP Stephen Curry.

“Golden State deserves this.
They were so bad for so many years...”

Oh, we’re they ever! We Warrior fans waited through many years of mediocrity to finally get to this.

They wouldn't have fared well, period. No team will ever replace or outshine the Bulls 72 win team.

Yes, I'm a Bulls fan.

There are a lot of good teams today...probably a lot more than in 1995.

The Spurs, OKC, Clippers and the Cavs were all better than Chicago’s opponents in the 90’s.

I am not declaring my Bulls of yore a superior team, but I am not willing to give comparable accolades to Golden State.

Get back to me when Golden State wins 6 NBA Championships.

Basketball was a far different game in the 90's than it is today. It used to require strategy, skill and finesse.

Now it's just a bunch of tatted up gang-bangers running up and down the court, attempting to draw fouls while driving the lane and launching three-pointers from the perimeter.

Basketball has been unwatchable since Michael Jordan retired. The days of Jordan, Bird, Johnson, Dr. J, Kareem and yes, even the hated Detroit Pistons were the glory days of the NBA.

My wife was watching. I was doing something else. I could hear her squeal every time he sank a three. He got five of them before the first commercial. He is certainly a fun guy to watch.

There is not even ONE great center playing now. The game is now all outside shots and dunks. Boring.

Disagree. Stockton & Malone. Phoenix with Barkley & Kevin Johnson were good teams. Jordan + Pippen was just that much better.

Who are the 'gang-bangers' of the Spurs, Trailblazers, or the Thunder?

Jordan and the Bulls were fun to watch. Jordan in Utah game 5 was beyond extraordinary.

It’s a remarkable feat. But also a demonstration of everything that’s wrong with the NBA.
