The Federal Election Commission (FEC) has asked a Ted Cruz super PAC to explain why it gave $500,000 to another super PAC supporting one of his Republican rivals.
According to financial disclosures from June, Keep the Promise I - one of four separate committees backing Cruz - gave half a million dollars to CARLY for America, the political action committee supporting Carly Fiorina.
Super PACs are legally allowed to give money to other super PACs - they are only prohibited from donating directly to any political campaign. But it's unusual for one of these groups to give money to an opponent, especially when the candidate it supports is still in the race.

“...if it’s legal, why is the FEC asking instead of minding its own business?”
Firstly, because it’s highly unusual for one PAC to give money to a rival PAC, and secondly, because it is their business to pay close attention to such activities.
Those who gave to that PAC SHOULD ask why their money went to a competitor.
Cruz isn’t a contributor and isn’t allowed to talk with or to the PAC.
Get some education.
Dang, you’re a tough grader.
“The candidates do not have PACs.”
That is correct, but the PACs have candidates. They are owned.
Amanda Carpenter, one of the alleged women, has now DELETED ALL of her tweets prior to March 1 of this year.
A couple days ago, she had tweets on her Twitter page going back to at least 2014, and I personally saw the tattoo tweets on April 1, 2014.
In June 2015 Cruz polled about 5% and Fiorina 2%; just read what you wrote and see if you believe it. $500,000 line item with no explanation; very unusual.
Back in June ? Seriously ? Not Gov Martinez ? Not Gov Haley ? Not Sen Ayotte ? I thought Cruz was supposed to be Tea Party ...

Not guilty!
If the allegations prove true, I sure won’t criticize his taste in pretty girls.
OK, so here's the question: WHY didn't Cruz just say so? Why is there no official explanation for the payment? I haven't seen any? Have you?
Why let this fester? Just issue a statement detailing the reason, and move on.
It is a totally lame explanation ... but what other explanation could there be for Cruz?
If he decided to make her the VP, then he should have publicly declared that ... he did not.
Not all represent candidates, but can even be only “anti-candidate,” which is its own strange beast.
The candidates do not have PACs.
*********************************
Exactly. The FEC is wrong for asking Cruz; they should be asking the folks that run thoses two Super PACs. It’s really none of their business though, since such transfers of funds between Super PACs is perfectly legal and is not connected to a candidate’s campaign.
Please, Cruz can’t communicate a thing to or from a Super PAC. Even if wanted Carly as VP, he can’t even imply for someone to give money to her.
Why the endorsement then?
I did not say Cruz bears responsibility.
I asked why Cruz is not asking why his PAC money was given to Florina.
It is not against the law to question in public why his PAC Money
was given to Florina.
The fact he is not asking, tells me he knew in advance this money was
going to be given to Florina.
Your comment does not make sense.
If it were your PAC money, I am certain you would like to know why.
Cruz had nothing to do with it. If the Super PAC people thought they would do that on their own, that is considered legal.
There was no reason for Cruz to have done that and it was/is illegal to even whisper to anyone with a Super PAC to do anything.
Bless your pea-pickin, naive little heart.
If you believe there has been NO COMMUNICATION between Cruz & his PACs, I've got a bridge in Brooklyn and a Florida swamp in NJ to sell you.
