WASHINGTON — A Donald Trump supporter aired unsubstantiated rumors of Ted Cruz infidelity on CNN on Friday. Within an hour, Cruz accused Trump of using “henchmen” to peddle tabloid “garbage” and “complete and utter lies.”
By mid-afternoon, Trump took to social media to deny his involvement in the story.
Mainstream news outlets had steered clear of the rumors and a report in the tabloid National Enquirer before the Trump supporter — appearing live with Amanda Carpenter, a CNN commentator who had worked as Cruz’s communications director — demanded Carpenter address the allegation that she had an affair with the senator.
“It is categorically false. You should be ashamed for spreading this kind of smut,” Carpenter shot back, visibly angry, denouncing the “tabloid trash.”
Twitter and other social media have erupted since the Enquirer posted its story Thursday afternoon, with the hashtag #Cruzsexscandal trending. Cruz detractors mounted an impromptu crowdsourcing effort online to identify the five women whose photos the Enquirer published with black bars across their eyes.
Cruz was campaigning in Wisconsin as Friday’s CNN segment was airing onstage live at a town hall in Oshkosh. The Enquirer report did not come up in the Q&A. The senator addressed it with reporters afterward.
Cruz also posted a denial on his Facebook page.

Seems Cruz has been accusing others of lying.
First was the flap with Dr. Carson in Iowa.
Cruz was denying everything, yet, the only person that could benefit from the lie was Ted Cruz.
Now, Trump is accused of lying, so says Cruz.
I don’t know the truth and don’t know anyone that does, but seems like Cruz is nervous and his actions confirms it.
I hope this clears soon so we can get on with electing a President.

Roger Stone's principal contribution is an "on the record" source that the rumors have been swirling for a while. Heck, I could have told you that. They've been swirling here on FR. Numerous media sources have already confirmed that they knew about the story.
In any event, Senator Cruz's problems are his, and his alone.

Trump never made an allegation about Cruz’s infidelity ..Cruz did however, make the allegation that Trump was peddling this story ..you are really going to have to brush up on facts before you get involved with this discussion

Anyone with common sense can deduce that Cruz and Carpenter were boinking.
It’s funny I even got that vibe a couple months ago the way she would defend him on CNN. Seemed so personal..
Cruz followers will have a decision by week’s end, the same as the Clinton worshippers did - defend the behavior to keep him politically viable or distance themselves. Will be fun to watch...
