When the Ford Motor Co. decided to move jobs south to Mexico so that it could pay its workers less, billionaire businessman Donald Trump was furious. He made trade inequalities and Ford’s betrayal of American workers a central issue of his campaign.

And, without his even being in the Oval Office, it worked.

In an interview with CNBC, Ford CEO Mark Fields said that the automaker would be “here to stay.” He also said he had outlined his company’s plans in a letter to Trump.

At least we the taxpayers won’t have to dole out welfare to the American workers that would have lost their jobs.

I am frankly disgusted with the whole country, voting for Obama twice and leaving Hillary even in contention, no less giving sanders a lead.

leaves me lost

We have been disenfranchised by the MSM, making this election undeniably pivotal.

Fords are made in Canada, India, New Zealand, South Africa, Australia etc. but we choose to worry about Mexico? Seems like jobs are a good way to keep Mexicans in Mexico and off the taxpayer dole.

Oh, and the price of American made trucks won’t be affected that much if they remain American made by American workers.

Do you really belive the polls that so Trump loses to Hillary or Sanders?

I have a problem with that one too. How can Trump be ahead of both Cruz and Kasich nationally by sometimes double digits but he can't beat Hillary or Bernie when Cruz and Kasich can? That is not adding up for me.

That would be a great idea if the plan is for open borders. Our vote (finally) this election will end this debate.

“Why not simply pass a law that no company can open a factory overseas without first getting the President to approve? “

I don’t think Trump or any other president can (or should) be able to MANDATE anything with respect to a private business (can you say Apple Computer?). But at the same time he should be able to use the bully pulpit to try and get our businesses to do things that help our country’s economic situation. Today’s CEO’s are totally subservient to the bottom line with NO REGARD for their workers or how their decisions affect the country as a whole. It’s why they are part of the GOPe and the US Chamber of Communists, because they look solely at their wallets. There is no patriotism on Wall Street or in Big Buiness today1 It’s sad, but it’s true!

From what I read, Trump never told them how to run their business, rather he opined, that alluding to IF he were President, he would incur a 35% tax for every transaction coming from that facility, at the time of the transaction.

No threat was made...but a warning was implied.

Our vote (finally) this election will end this debate.

No it won't. If Trump or Cruz win that is the executive branch. There is still the legislative and judicial branches that will continue the debate. Thinking that if Trump wins means everything he says will come to pass is naïve.

Sure, those guys get to keep their jobs, and we as a group don’t have to dole out unemployment benefits to each of them. Some would choose to never work again, but most will find work and will go on to remain productive members of society.

The alternative is that all of us are forced to purchase more expensive goods forevermore because of government control of the means of production. What is that called again?

“How is this good news?”

The 35% tariff is a negotiating ploy.

Fair trade in the end will benefit the US economy. American workers will be employed and able to spend and afford to pay more.

“A rising tide lifts all boats”.

Or we could continue to subsidize foreign exploiters.

here is an example of how it works.

http://www.tirebusiness.com/article/20150714/NEWS/150719974

the President appoints the ITC Commissioners.

No new legislation is required. All that is needed in Presidential leadership.
