I use about a half can, too. I use this basic recipe:

I add 1/2 cup water, and more bread crumbs. I Pat it down in an 8x12 pan so every piece tastes like an end piece. Crusty on top.
We do the half beef, half pork also.
Trying to watch our bread (carbs) intake, we tried substituting oatmeal for the bread crumbs, and found that it actually works well.
