He's just playing the part of a politician running for office. Put on the game face (no matter what the data says) and try to keep the troops pumped up.
Of course a saner approach might be to drop out, but that's not the way the game is played.

Yes. People are desperately looking for politicians who speak plainly and don't constantly spin. If Rubio had the guts to say that, I'd bet he'd pick up votes.

I can think of a lot of things to say if you are an honest person.
How about: “We have a lot of work to do, no doubt, and let me get back to getting it done.”
How about: “Donald Trump and Ted Cruz had a good night tonight. We have a lot of work to do if we are going to match their performance.”
