There’s a monument at Subic Bay to the courage of the 20-something Philippine senators that voted to kick us out (before Pinatubo made the choice in face of the 500 million dollar “rental” fee moot).

It seems there are many anti-colonialist leftists in the gov’t there — or used to be, before reality sunk in.

Subic is a strategic location — one of two best natural ports in the Pacific, along with Cam Ranh Bay. Used to be known for the ability to dry-dock a carrier. And Clark has two parallel 12,000 foot runways, with lots of tarmac to boot.
