Our family physical therapist has very non-orthodox methods. BUT - they work. Most of the body problems are due to poor feet - so he is big into orthodics. (It took him quite awhile to figure that out).

There are certain spine and neck issues that will also cause the jaw to sit wrong, and then cause dental problems. He thought about that for awhile, and figured the reverse might also be true. That jaw miss-alignment will cause spine and neck problems - even lower back pain. He worked with a dentist and developed a retainer that shifts the jaw into proper alignment and can cure back and neck pain.

As soon as they started to promote it - both were told to stop or they would be kicked out of their fields. No “scientific proof”.

He did refer us to the dentist though after diagnosing my daughter’s chronic headaches. We had been to a couple of doctors over a time of about 5 months. X-rays, meds, etc. The next thing to do was an MRI. Then I mentioned to my wife - “How about Bob?” She looked at me like “Why didn’t I think of that!” (Several times the regular docs have missed things or can’t fix it, but Bob can.)

He presses on certain nerves and verttebrae while doing a “strength test” to figure out where the source of the problem is. He did some adjustments to her neck that helped get things back in alignment, but could also tell that her jaw wasn’t just right. So he sent us to his dental guy for a more permanent fix.

She has been wearing her dental appliance for two weeks now, and her headaches are gone. Amazing! I was worried that being a teen she wouldn’t wear the appliance, but she has gotten used to it and wears it all the time.

We have sent other friends to this guy that have had chronic pain for years and have gone to lots of people with no luck. He fixes them.

I’ve asked him who else does his kind of therapy for when he retires or leaves. IIRC he said there were a few people in the country. (He is in the Seattle area). I’m guessing he is the only one with the dental appliance.

I remember that my frient’s masseur could calm her stomach problems by working on a pressure point on her feet.
