This is not good news for our side. We tend to scoff at Bernie, thinking that he couldn’t win. That is simply wrong. The Bernie supporters are young, smart (although unwise) and are 110% behind their candidate. They WILL crawl over broken glass to get him elected.
Another issue to consider is that several states will have marijuana legalization measures on their ballot. That will drive leftist voter turnout.
This guy for all his goofiness is a formidable candidate. The coughing witch, not so much.
Cruz is the only one who can beat Bernie because he can very clearly take apart and dismantle socialist ideology and educate the country about economic the way Reagan did with his trickle-down philosophies.
Trump is the worst possible candidate to take on Bernie. He’s a billionaire ready-made for Bernie to attack him as a 1%’er. Trump himself offers not a critique of socialism but socialism-lite, where the government will cover everyone who needs medical care, social security and medicare will be preserved with no changes, the “hedge fund guys and the rich will pay more” in taxes, etc. Socialism lite can’t beat socialism. But capitalism can beat when the spokesman attacks the entire logic of socialism as a failed economic theory.
The same was said about McGovern in 72 and he was promising to end a war that half those young voters might be drafted to fight in.
