The issue of WMDs in Iraq was more of the assertion that Saddam Hussein was procuring nuclear weapon components, including “yellow cake” from which to make weapons grade uranium fuel. The problem is that none of these items were found or conclusively proven to be true.
If they were moved somewhere else, then three questions arise:
1.) When were they moved?
2.) where were they moved to?
3.) By whom were they moved?
Now, since such a move would have occurred while GWB was in charge, then we must ask why did our intelligence assets not uncover the answers to those three questions? Is it possible that GWB’s relationship with the House of Saud, the Syrians, and the Russians compromise his ability to take action? Or is it possible that he did in fact act on bad intelligence about WMDs in the first place?
While GWB never did adequately explain the failure to find WMD’s in Iraq, yet he wasted no time in assembling a security apparatus that has done more to strip American citizens of their 1st, 4th, and 5th Amendment protections than he did to go after the Muslim cult, rather preferring to call Islam a “religion of peace” ...
The fact is that political correctness and political connections with unsavory ME “allies” took precedence over getting to the truth of the matter and dealing with our real enemies as we should have, namely Saudi Arabia - the head from which all of Islam’s tentacles grow and propagate across the globe.
It was widely reported at the time. I am not going to track down articles from 2001. Go do it yourself.
As for Bush and Clinton, what do I care? I stopped supporting him years ago. It is possible to not be a fan of GWB and still think people blaming him for 9-11 are out of line.
Right...that is clearly the point of my missive. Well done. Ignore the part about not being able to fill his STAFF and zero in on a little anecdote given for no other reason then to demonstrate how toxic the environment was in DC.
I don’t know why I bother
Trump going “911 truther” again was totally off-putting. The statement that Bush lied about WMD also makes him sound like an MSNBC “Bush lied, people died” leftist and therefore a lot like he used to in all his interviews from 2010 and earlier. I was surprised Trump didn’t mention deportation in his immigration answer. Getting ready to “walk that back” already in time for the general?
I thought Cruz defended himself well and got in some of his best attacks on Trump. However Trump constantly rudely interrupting Cruz took away valuable time from him. The moderators should’ve put a stop to that. They should’ve had some enforcement mechanism in place for candidates who interrupt and steal time.
Trump’s answer on the 3 questions he would ask his situation room was a joke. A totally generic, thoughtless, non-specific answer.
Overall it was a debate that showed the worst of Trump, his rudeness and his lack of depth on the issues. The fact that he had to seriously answer a question about his profanity was just embarrassing. Made him look like an immature schoolboy in the principal’s office and as unpresidential as it gets.
The big guy gave Ruffian a weeks time out.
Was really getting obnoxious on this thread.
I can’t wait to see the expression on Obama’s face as he has to say all the nice, sympathetic, respectful things about Scalia that he knows he will have to.
Establishment loses again....
“Apparently running in Texas Cruz indicated he didnât speak Spanish.”
Is that your opinion or do you have evidence of that?
It’s just a lie that Bush was warned by the CIA about 9/11. That is the kind of claim you just don’t hear outside of a Michael Moore movie.
The idea that Trump was “the only one” to be against the Iraq war is also a dubious claim. Trump isn’t on record being against the war until like a year in after it was already getting criticism. I don’t think any evidence that he said Bush shouldn’t go in before the war started has ever been found. I also don’t know if anyone on that stage was in any political office when the war was started except Jeb, so I’m not sure if there are statements from any of them out there saying they supported it or didn’t. Of course, nobody at the time was against it except I think the furthest left members of Congress.
Rubio was right on this one that we were “in” Iraq for over 10 years by that time enforcing no-fly-zones and doing other actions. Saddam was being forcibly contained for all that time. And I can’t remember if anyone said it, but the war wasn’t “lost” until Obama pulled out. Everyone including Democrats acknowledged the war had been won at the time he pulled out, otherwise he would have found it politically tougher to pull out.
They can't lose enough as far as I'm concerned.
“Nation building” is what neo-cons do ... Their New World Order aspirations get us into regional wars with adversaries whose political issues have no real solution. They compel us to fight for all the wrong reasons, using faux patriotism and a false idea of “defending freedom / democracy” as a shield against critical reasoning ... And, more telling, they never never take the fight to our real enemies.
Who is it that financed the attacks of September 11, 2001 - and every other terrorist attack before and since?
The House of Saud.
Wahhabism is what generates the mindset of Islamic jihad.
But the House of Saud controls OPEC - and the Oil.
The Bushes lie in bed with the Saudis - they always have and they always will. Why do you think GWB called Islam a “religion of peace,” when all objective historical evidence proves it to be a militant, expansionist, totalitarian political ideology, posing as a religion? Only a simplistic fool, a co-conspirator, or a compromised politico would consider Islam a “religion of peace.” Take your pick as to which category GWB falls into.
Google it
Trump did a great job for a centrist GOP. That’s the best conservative that can win this election.
He got as good as he got but his positions are unassailable at this point. I don’t like when he goes off on Ted Cruz, but I’m going to give him the legitimacy of his lead and command of the issue that are most important today.
The problem is knowing what we knew at that time, was it a safer “bet” to leave Saddam in power and hope he would never create WMDs under the radar and pass them to terrorists? The intelligence I believe went as far as to say that Saddam must have been trying to at least make it look like he had WMDs to possibly scare Iran. You don’t necessarily wait for 100% confirmed intelligence to take action when the risk seems great.

Why did Bush let the Bin Laden Family escape in a plane.
This was while all other flights were grounded?
This is right after OBL killed over 3,000 Americans.
Keep in mind 15 of the 19 hijackers were from Saudi Arabia, and we wonder why Al-Qaeda/ISIS is still around?
So what are you going to do? Declare war on all of Islam or invade Saudi Arabia?
We have never been in a war because of a “New World Order aspiration.” That’s simply an unproven conspiracy theory.
The Bush regime thought bringing democracy to Arab countries would solve some of the terrorism problem. The spread of democracy is something that absolutely made Europe and Asia less warmongering in the last 75 years. Iraq would’ve needed us to be there, handholding for a longer time to try the experiment. Us having a solid military foothold in the Middle East in Iraq would’ve also given us big leverage in influencing the Sauds and others to change their ways. Bush left Iraq in peace. Obama threw it all away by pulling out of Iraq. Obama created ISIS.
Arabs are not Europeans.
