The “problem” with the SCOTUS is not the justices, it’s the other branches of government who allow the court to exceed its authority. Most of the cultural rot in this country is the result of SCOTUS decisions, from banning prayer, creating abortion “rights” out of thin air, the court’s re-write of Obamacare to the absurdity of “gay marriage”. A liberal majority will certainly seek to abolish the Bill of Rights beginning with the 2nd Amendment. A conservative majority is infinitely better... but, the nation cannot allow the court to be able to put the laws and freedom of the nation at the mercy and whims of five lawyers, no matter who they are!
