Pentagon documents released on Tuesday indicate that the 2017 budget requests of the US Defense Department include a total of $145.8 million for Israeli missile defense programs, a sharp drop in financial support amid a standoff over American military aid.
The aid, meant for Israel's missile interceptor programs including the short-range Iron Dome, medium-range David's Sling and Arrow ballistic missile interceptor, includes far lower figures than those recorded the year before in 2016, reports Reuters.
A total of $103.8 million for Israeli cooperative programs was listed in the 2017 budget request, in a serious cut from $267.7 million in 2016. The funding for Iron Dome also dropped from $55 million in 2016 to $42 million in 2017.
The budget forecast shows that over the next five years the US intends to spend $540 million on cooperative programs, but the funding for Iron Dome is to end after the $42 million in 2017. ...

Are you aware that the US just paid Iran $1.7 BILLION in US taxpayer funds? Are you aware that Iran has sworn to destroy Israel, and that it is developing a nuclear missile program and supporting Hamas and other terrorist groups?
It would be one thing if the US were cutting funding to all parties. The Obama administration is cutting funding to Israel while shovelling orders of magnitude more money into the coffers into Israel’s sworn military enemies.
What is really going on here is that Obama is trying to press Israel to accept a 10-year defense pact that sharply reduces the money that the US is providing to Israel for defense over the next ten years beginning in 2018. Because Obama is a thug who works in the Chicago way, he is pressuring Israel to accept by raising the stakes with a reduced budget for 2017, the year BEFORE the new pact is to take place.

Oh, I understand the blackmail there. I’m just surprised to discover we’re paying for Israel’s military to begin with. Israel must have some pretty good lobbyists to get us to fork up for their own national defense. Being allies and supporting your ally is one thing, but subsidizing all your allies when you’re dead broke yourself? Doesn’t seem kosher. Israel isn’t a poor country.

Thank you ChiMark. I was focusing on the $1.7 billion, but in fact the US has given to Iran $!50 billion! At the same time it is cutting down defense funding to Israel by half, to just over $100 million.
Having said that, it's important to note these U.S. "military aid" programs are really nothing more than welfare for U.S. arms suppliers. The U.S. taxpayers are sending this money to Israel so the Israeli military buys their weapons from U.S. manufacturers instead of the Chinese or Russians.

The Iron Dome is a very effective system.
Most don’t realize Israel is attacked constantly by incoming rockets fired from surrounding areas. Ever since the Iron Dome was put in place, it intercepts at least 80% of those rockets.
