He was wounded in a foxhole in the Philippines in 1944.
"There were four guys in there, and two guys got killed," he told the station. "And then the other guy, he got his leg... Oh, hell. I guess he lost his leg. It was slit in four places where a grenade hit between us and I got one in my leg."
Limpert said he waited until now to apply for benefits because he is down to nothing.
******
His application included plenty of documentation, including discharge papers, the names of his foxhole pals and the X-ray of his wounded leg. The proof also included his Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars he received in the Pacific.
Fox 2 reported the VA letter asks Limpert to submit affidavits from fellow service members, most of whom are dead, or the location of the hospital where he was originally treated.
"There ain't no hospital," he told the station. "We were in the jungles."
The station reported that Limpert's military records were apparently among the millions destroyed in a massive fire in Overland, Missouri, in 1973.
The station also reported that it sought comment from the VA in Washington without success.
Limpert has now turned to his local senator for help in the matter.

My daddy never went to the VA for care. He didn’t want to burden his country with anything when he could take care of himself. But he was part of the do for yourself generation.
My friend was a Marine 9 years. Now he’s old and needs hearing aids. Doc said he could get them cheap from the VA. He said he has plenty of money, let the poorer vets have the cheap ones.
WWII vet records missing
Vet needs administrative help with the VA
I would have thought, instead of saying "I have plenty of money, let the poorer vets have the cheap ones.", he might have said "Huh? What?"
:)
Yep ..... did that to.....good point
That is awesome. This guy is obviously not your Dad.
Agreed. VA health care is for those with major injuries in combat. It is not for Viet Nam vets like me. If Im crazy, I cant blame it on the Army.
In my opinion, the VA is not there for stupids who crash their car drunk either.
My paternal grandfather was much like that. He served during WWII but until he was sick with failing kidneys and lung problems, which killed him, he never went to the VA.
Nope. My daddy died over 25 years ago.
Dead Man Warned He Will Lose Council Benefits
BBC News, July 13, 2000
A London council has written to a man telling him his council tax benefit was being stopped because he was dead.
Lambeth Borough Council's benefits department sent the letter to William Reynolds, who died in April from cancer, two weeks ago.
It said his benefit was being stopped because of his death and urged him to contact a hotline if he wanted to contest the decision.
The council has condemned the actions of its housing benefit contractor, Capita Business Services, and demanded an overhaul of the company's entire system to avoid a repeat of the incident.
The letter was opened by Christine Allery who moved into Mr. Reynolds' flat in West Norwood, South London, last month.
It read: "Your Council Tax Benefit has been stopped from 17 April 2000 because there has been a change in your circumstances, the change is because you are dead."
Council leader Tony Franklin said it was an indefensible error.
"We are demanding that Capita overhauls its systems immediately to ensure that such a form of words never appears again, even on internal documentation," he said.
There are other avenues to obtain proof of service and/or POW ecords. NARA reveals twenty-five (25) Limpert. What is the veteran’s firat name?
Robert
I think it’s rather more of an issue than you do. This vet seems to be being deliberately harassed in spite of his literally heroic war record. Sometimes the story really is extreme, and this one is. The bureaucrat behind it should be jailed, IMO.
I work for a government bureaucracy; we’ve killed off people who weren’t.
Vietnam combat veteran bump....
He presented those, they wanted witness testimony dufus.
If I had not done that I would have no records at all.
Amen Brother!! 75 and honorably discharged from the Air Force. I also have never used the VA for the same reason.
I see that you are still hanging around trying to convince everyone how big an idiot you are.
