SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Investors gave LinkedIn a poor job review Friday in the form of a dramatic sell-off that wiped out nearly $11 billion in the professional networking site's market value.
A surprise forecast for slower growth this year sent LinkedIn shares into a stomach-turning plunge of almost 44 percent.
After the market closed Thursday, the online company reported better-than-expected earnings for the last quarter but warned that revenue would fall short of what analysts had projected for 2016. It also said it was discontinuing a new online advertising system that hadn't worked out.

Stay away from the social media stocks IMO. There are really no barriers to entry and they are priced for perfection.

Actually, FB just had boffo earnings, and still is down 10% in 2 days.
I hope this stops the Connectifier purchase.
Boffo earnings or not, when you are priced for perfection you are walking on a razor’s edge and must maintain that each and every quarter.
Eventually you will disappoint.
I’m on LinkedIn but I’ve never seen any value in it.
I could say the same for Facebook because I don’t particularily like it, but it’s becoming a useful platform because of its immense reach, degree of penetration and localization.

I’ve been misled; I thought with 4.9% unemployment folks would be all over LinkedIn, jumping around happily company to company, networking with all the opportunity that lies ahead...sorry to be so sarcastic.

LinkedIn is one giant spam machine.
It blows my mind that there are social media stocks. And that a ridiculous company like Facebook is worth anywhere near a real company that matters to the world.
I don’t understand how either of them makes money. Who pays them to do anything?
I disagree. I have successfully job hunted with LinkedIn. I value the chance to keep track of colleagues.
I was about to say the same thing. How do they make money? Of course, I never go on Facebook or any of those other types of places.
Indeed, I’ve never even ordered or done business on the internet, other than about 15 years ago, when I was using Ebay.
But how much did you pay to LinkedIn?
I have tried to quit it and make it go away for almost two years, but I still get messages all the time. I've gotten a couple of messages from people I recognize and have apologized for not responding and they've told me they never sent a message.
About a month ago I toured the site and still have no idea how to accomplish anything beyond annoying people.
I’d imagine they do it the same way as TV networks: ad revenue. People don’t realize that TV isn’t selling products to them; they (the audience) have been sold to companies as advertising targets.
Years ago I kept getting these emails from Linkedin stating that my son wanted me to join. I don’t get involved in social media so at first I kept disregarding them. After awhile I kept receiving them I decided to check it out if that’s what my son really wants me to do. Maybe I’d do it just for him to keep in touch while he was away.
I started to create a profile however I don’t like putting my personal information out on the internet so I left it incomplete. When I got to the TOS I read it. It stated that by clicking the agree button I was giving them permission to access my email account and copy my address book.
I did not agree and didn’t click that button. Instead I hit the back button on my browser to get the hell out of there. A message popped up stating that it was too late, I had already agreed to the terms. That’s bs I did not click that button. Sure enough they stole my address book and (god knows what else they stole) and spammed everybody in it. I had to call everybody I know and tell them to disregard it.
Later when I talked to my son I lectured him about that website, he told me he never sent those invitations and that he got tricked into it himself.
Linkedin is a bogus website and they should be sued for fraud!
