Dueling Democrats Hillary Clinton and Sen. Bernie Sanders were at a dead heat during the Iowa caucus, but their numbers were even closer at a Polk County precinct.
Delegates with Des Moinesâ Precinct 70 sided with Clinton after breaking a 61-61 split with a coin toss, Univision reported. Caucus rules allow for a coin flip to decide a victor in case of a tie.
CLINTON, SANDERS IN TIGHT CONTEST AS IOWA CAUCUSES OPEN
The coin landed heads-down in favor of Clinton at the Weeks Middle School gymnasium.
âThatâs how it works,â one voter sporting Sanders stickers said. âIt was very, very close. Remember this is a caucus.â
Another coin flip awarded Clinton additional delegates during a precinct tie in Davenport and in Ames, where 60 voters walked out in the middle of the caucus, according to the Des Moines Register.
As of early Tuesday, Clinton and Sanders were separated by mere points in Monday's caucus.
She addressed supporters alongside former President Bill Clinton and their daughter, Chelsea Clinton. Sanders emerged from his hotel shortly after Clintonâs speech to an auditorium full of chanting supporters.
âIt looks like we are in a virtual tie,â said Sanders, remarking on the close tally of points.

Denver better use that coin Sunday
Sanders should then point out the Hillary is indeed a One Percenter.
Perhaps he would have won if they flipped a welfare check or a block of free government cheese instead.
Better to flip a welfare queen, then see bill come a running
What are the odds of winning 6 out of 6 coin tosses? At the casino security would have you in a back room as they reviewed the videos.
Giving or receiving? This is one thing that is better to . . .
Sorry, can’t type this with a straight face . . .
If you just look at the surface, where we have a former First Lady running against an admitted socialist, it’s sad it’s a tie as Clinton should have walked all over Bernie.
But when you dig deeper, knowing she should be in jail several times over, and Bernie has communist ties, what is sadder is anyone voting for either at all, especially in a place like Iowa, I can see California or NY, but Iowa?
I can still learn a few things.
She should run with it and put $20 into Powerball tickets.
Almost as good as her cattle futures bets.
Once again Hillary is unable to deliver a plausible lie. Had she won 5 of 6 or 4 of 6 no one would have batted an eye. But no, Hillary goes for 6 out of 6 and the Bosnian sniper fire.
Heads or tails, either way is good with Billy boy.
Or so the tale goes.
Who is surprised by that. It was/is rigged so that she will win. If it had been a million coin flips,, she would have won them all. If the people want this bitch to rule over them, Well..... there is nothing more to be said. They deserve what they are going to get.
Democrats were counting the votes of course it would never be anything but rigged.
I've ALWAYS thought it's pure nonsense.
All night long the nitwork pundits were falling all over themselves repeating over and over in various forms...."what you are seeing tonight is democracy in action".
When the enemedia slobbers like that I know the opposite is true, no matter the subject.
Was it democracy in action?
As a matter of democracy, if you're elderly, disabled, handicapped, whatever and can't come out to stand for hours in the icy cold and then sit on the hardwood floor inside...can you vote by absentee ballot in the "democratic" caucus system? Or is this segment of the population shut out? I didn't see any wheel chairs all night long. Does anyone know if there's absentee voting?
Then, when crowds inside are herded to stand under their respective candidates' banners, what happened to the American "secret ballot" concept? This stupidity is off-putting and can cause countless potential voters to stay home.
I'm not too optimistic I'll get an answer as most folks don't understand the whole caucus system to begin with.

The Iowa Caucus thing is a joke. It will be forgotten by the weekend.
This caucus stuff is nonsense. A coin toss? Unbelievable.
She can’t even beat an elderly Communist
Yo, Bernie - better put a little ice on that . . .
I was surprised at how few people showed up for the Dems. Or am I not understanding how they vote in Iowa. 1,400 voters seems almost insignificant.
