We all know Ted Cruz is right, as in politically right of center, and I mean really right.
But he's also right about his latest proposal leading up to Monday's voting in Iowa.
The Texas senator says he wants to debate Donald Trump one-on-one, and he means right now.
Now that would be worth paying for, as in pay-per-view. Or, perhaps to lure The Donald in, find a sponsor willing to donate all proceeds to wounded veterans' groups since that's what Trump said Fox should do with money it would make off a scheduled Thursday night debate that he, Trump, now says he intends to skip.
Cruz is right two ways. First, he and Trump appear to be the only game in town in the Hawkeye State. Current averages of multiple polls maintained by Real Clear Politics show Trump leading with 33 percent, Cruz second with 27 percent and nobody else in the 11-person field anywhere close.
(For Rick Santorum fans who remember Rick won Iowa last time around, the former Pennsylvania senator's current average is one percent, but he polled at zero in the latest Iowa Quinnipiac poll.)
So a Cruz-Trump-only debate would really give Iowa voters a clear sense of what they're investing in.
But Cruz is also right in suggesting they debate without moderators. I'd add they should do so without a live audience.
That way there'd be a better chance to see who actually knows anything rather than just seeing who can rile a crowd.

Good rule! Especially since THIS IS THE END of the RNC debate schedule and would have been the last debate anyway. Right? So what downside and where? Trump could do it - RNC wouldn’t need to sanction, approve or attend. The two men could manage to be very entertaining and informative on their own with no liberal moderators, no live audience, and no preening peacocks that go by the name of RP (that Scandinavian named ‘guy’)
You know who should be really upset?
ABC News, who is supposed to host the Feb 6th debate in NH.
What if they sued Fox for destroying the future debate schedule and revenues? Hmmmm...
One other trap Trump and .Cruz both have had to deal with the entire time in these debates is the GOPe hand picked audiences to favor Jeb! And crew.
Good, enjoy the puppet show....
Even if the RNC didn't sanction it, and I don't see how they could with all the other candidate excluded, I still can't believe that they would bar the two leading candidate from future sanctioned events. They would probably just issue a "Bad boy, Trump Bad boy, Cruz" statement and go on from there.
I think they wrote it down, so it's worth the paper it's printed on.
At rock bottom, the only rule is that there are no rules.
Enjoy the Trumpathon.
“So says the TRUMP (PRAISE BE TO HIM) supporter as his candidate scurries away...frightened of a girl.”
The level of delusion you’re displaying is staggering.
It’s obvious to all (including snooze supporters) that Trump has been the only one with the guts to take on the PC establishment.
- Stop allowing muslim immigrants
- BET awards
- Send illegals home
Remember all Snooze’s bold statments? Me neither.
Without Trump on stage, we could hear a clear presentation of ideology between Constitutional principles and GOPe.
Best part, no Trump inputs on FR the next day.
Trump’s danger is to the political establishment. We would definitely be a better country after a Trump presidency. Cruz would try on some issues but he would cave to the GOPe on too many critical issues like immigration. McConnell and the CoC,already have his number and Cruz needs large Donor donations to survive.
That's news to me. I though they had 6 more scheduled, up to the SC primary or thereabout.
I hear you! I am a Cruz supporter. In all honesty I will vote for Trump in November if he is on the ballot. But I do not like his personality and his john-come-lately conversion to conservatism. I just want Ronald Reagan back when he could comfort the nation with his “touch the surly hands of God speech”!
Truthfully, a debate between Cruz and Trump would be huge. And, I suspect, oddly enough, impressively polite, with both of them being on their best behavior.
First of all, no moderator. Don’t need one, because moderators seek to generate antagonism, nothing more. Second, the debate has no shouting back and forth, just an old school debate:
1) Based on a coin flip, one of the candidates has his say.
The camera remains on the speaker the whole time, and the microphone of the other candidate is muted.
2) The other candidate then gives his rebuttal, based on notes he took when the first one was speaking. Again, camera on him, microphone off on the other guy.
3) The first candidate then gives his response to the rebuttal.
4) Then it is the other candidates turn to have his say, followed by a rebuttal and response.
This is basically the format used during the Lincoln-Douglas debates, and it conveyed such a depth of ideas and philosophies that they are still studied today.
(It might be added that the newspapers of the time blatantly twisted their words to fit their agendas. Times haven’t changed that much. So it was an considerable effort to reconstruct what was actually said.)

Seems to even brought into this forum. Seems everyone wants a candidate that fits their ideology or thinking.
Hope for America’s sake whoever wins is really for America!!!
Take care........pilgrim
Right I think it would benefit them both.
Uh you just gave the upside for Trump—He’d be barred from future RNC debates. He’d love to do that because then he’d have a good excuse to not debate.
Or in reality he’d just get them to change the rules if he wanted to debate in the RNC debate.
And Trump knows Cruz would wipe the floor with him in any debate about serious issues. Besides, he’s in the lead, why would he agree? That’s one thing he’s learned from the Clintons.
THANK you. Well said.
> ANYONE who takes on TRUMP... LOSES! PERIOD!
I’m gonna invoke Godwin’s Law and just remind everybody that the same thing was said about Hitler up until he invaded Russia.
