THE NIGHT OF JANUARY 16, 1938
BENNY GOODMAN AT CARNEGIE HALL
THE GOODMAN QUARTET
In 1936, the Goodman Trio became the Goodman Quartet with the addition of Lionel Hampton on vibraphone. Hampton was already a legend due to his work with Louis Armstrong. He came east to join Goodman, and they never sounded better.
"Avalon" is an Al Jolson and Billy Rose composition.
"Avalon"
The next two pieces are from the pens of George and Ira Gershwin.
"The Man I Love"
"I Got Rhythm"
We'll be back tomorrow night with the second part.
