FULL TITLE: Until White America looks at Tamir Rice and sees their own children, there will be no racial justice in the U.S.

The failure to indict the police who killed Tamir Rice, Michael Brown, Eric Garner, Rekia Boyd, and so many others forces an uncomfortable question. Could it be that black people in America (and the West, more generally) are somehow “stained”? Are they marked for special punishment? Is the Curse of Ham real, does that Judeo-Christian mythology from the era of colonialism, white empire, and chattel slavery endure into the post civil rights and ostensibly “post racial” American present?
Research in psychology and other fields has demonstrated that many white people do not feel that blacks are worthy of empathy. Other work shows that many white people possess a deep subconscious belief which dehumanizes black people by linking them with apes and other primates. Psychologists have also determined that white people consistently view black children as being older than they actually are. Other research has shown that white people believe that blacks have superhuman, magical powers. Implicit bias research suggests that approximately 50 percent of whites (as well as members of other groups) hold racist and prejudicial attitudes towards black people.
And of course, America’s police are quicker in their decision to shoot unarmed black people than they are whites in the same scenario. Likewise, America’s police also somehow believe that harmless objectswhen held by a black person are transformed into lethal items such as guns and knives.
These examples suggest that the White Gaze views “blackness,” and by implication, black people, as toxins in the white body politic, a human curse, or even worse as “takers” and social parasites.

My child would never have been dumb enough to pull a toy gun - or any gun - on cops with real guns.
Racism won’t end until we stop looking at people by race.
Such as when they lecture us about the evils of white America.
It is racist to hold “minorities” to the same standards as everyone else.
Tamir Rice, Michael Brown, Eric Garner, Rekia Boyd if they weren’t committing some type of Crime they would have never come in contact with Police
Until black Americans teach their kids not to point toy guns at police officers, nothing will change.
A boy who looks like a man, not that silly photo that has been posted, and who points a realistic looking gun at strangers and pretends to shoot, deserves exactly what he got.
How about black people cleaning up their own house? How about that? Once you stop shooting and killing each other like crazy, then come talk to me. Until then...
Man up, woman up! Take responsability for your own actions! Quite blaming! Repent!
Then we can have an honest discussion.
Until Black America wakes up and realizes their problems stem from themselves and their blind loyalty to a political party that has always treated them with utter contempt then.....
If our kids point replica firearms at people in the park we beat them.
If my kid was stupid enough to display a replica pistol in front of the PD — it wouldn’t surprise me if he or she got shot.
That’s not going to happen.
So I for one will never look at a Trayvon and see, frankly, anyone I know.
Was Tamir Rice committing a crime? I hadn’t heard that there was a specific law being broken.
In the Rice case, I really do believe that we’ve trained some cops to be pretty stupid about how they engage certain situations. For example, they didn’t have to pull up so close. They could have been a bit farther back, giving them time to observe that it really was just a kid playing with a toy gun.
Has anyone else noticed, that they have never in their life seen a Black person be told to try to look at Whites and try to understand them?
Sadly, you see some of that right here on FreeRepublic from time to time.
I’ve seen multiple stories reporting that he had a pellet gun, not a toy gun. Were those stories incorrect? Most pellet guns that I’ve seen look almost exactly like the real thing.
