Greenville, S.C. Donald Trump is skipping a scheduled appearance at the Heritage Foundation's Presidential Forum this weekend because of a "significant business transaction," but his deal-making didn't stop him from releasing an unexpected policy proposal on the Second Amendment on Friday afternoon.
In the new proposal, Trump advocates for the elimination of all gun and magazine bans, the creation of national concealed carry permits and the toughening of sentencing laws for felonies committed with firearms.
Writing that it is "imperative" to preserve Second Amendment rights, Trump's plan pushes for rules that "empower law-abiding gun owners to defend themselves."
"Our personal protection is ultimately up to us. That's why I'm a gun owner, that's why I have a concealed carry permit and that's why tens of millions of Americans have concealed carry permits as well," he writes.
The fact that Trump has a concealed carry permit is not new, but other details about his gun ownership practices remain unclear. In the past, Trump has demurred when asked specifics about his personal gun ownership. (Conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt asked Trump earlier in the month about what kind of gun he has. Trump responded "I'd rather not say.")
Trump's policy paper calls gun and magazine bans "a total failure" and attacks attempts to expand background check programs as misguided because "very few criminals are stupid enough to try and pass a background check - they get their guns from friends/family members or by stealing them."
Trump's aggressive rejection of gun regulations is a reversal for the Republican presidential candidate, who wrote in his 2000 book "The America We Deserve" that he supported an assault weapons ban and longer waiting periods for gun buyers.

I have yet to read a straight story on Trump from the media. They must have an obligatory clause to either mislabel the article or throw in a cheap shot in any article they write.
The up side of this is that they have made it all low hanging fruit for an us vs. them election.
Never have they ever brought anything from their pets’ histories. More than 8 years of protecting Hussein and now Hitlary.
They don't even deny their call anymore. Chris Matthews yelling, "We nailed Trump!" Beyond frightening that our media is now officially the enemy.
Trump's aggressive support of Constitutional rights
I like this guy more all the time!
Since the time of publication of Trump’s referred book, times have changed dramatically.
We have anti-American militants withing the Continental 48, that could and would strike out at anyone that they have chosen to be deserving. This, alone, should be enough for any right-thinking American to become armed, of some kind.
I don’t like the concept of a national permit. What we’ll get is the worst of a CDL and pilot’s license with a mandatory 72 hour psychiatric evaluation, renewed every year.
He didn’t say National Permit. It was reciprocity.
Good thing that’s not at all what he’s talking about then, huh?
The Constitution specifically provides that American citizens have the right to arm themselves.
All of this phoney legislation around the 2nd Amendment should be adjudicated within the Constitution itself. But that is made very hard by design. So instead weve been harassed, cajoled and hoodwinked by laws at the Federal, State and municipal levels to the extent that in some jurisdictions even having a gun in your own home has been judged illegal.
Now its even taking place with regard to the First Amendment to the extent that being a Christian will eventually disqualify one from working within government at all.
Or will we be required then to take out special permits for that too?
There is a word for this. It is TYRANNY.
Very uncalled for and unnecessary. A Constitutional requirement for CCW. No burdensome or high costs involved.
Sorry, I was confused by what the article said: “In the new proposal, Trump advocates for the elimination of all gun and magazine bans, the creation of national concealed carry permits and the toughening of sentencing laws for felonies committed with firearms. “
NATIONAL RIGHT TO CARRY. The right of self-defense doesnt stop at the end of your driveway. Thats why I have a concealed carry permit and why tens of millions of Americans do too. That permit should be valid in all 50 states. A drivers license works in every state, so its common sense that a concealed carry permit should work in every state. If we can do that for driving which is a privilege, not a right then surely we can do that for concealed carry, which is a right, not a privilege.
The Kentucky state constitution provides an example of this when it says: That the rights of the citizens to bear arms in defense of themselves and the State shall not be questioned; but the General Assembly may pass laws to prevent persons from carrying concealed arms." Art. XIII, § 25.
Similarly, in louisiana, the state constitution states: The right of each citizen to keep and bear arms shall not be abridged, but this provision shall not prevent the passage of laws to prohibit the carrying of weapons concealed on the person. Art. I, § 11 (enacted 1974).
In Colorado: The right of no person to keep and bear arms in defense of his home, person and property, or in aid of the civil power when thereto legally summoned, shall be called in question; but nothing herein contained shall be construed to justify the practice of carrying concealed weapons. Art. II, § 13 (enacted 1876, art. II, § 13).
The supreme court has ruled that States may enact reasonable restrictions including regulating the carrying of concealed weapons. The national reciprocity battle than revolves around ensuring that states that allow concealed carry permits honor concealed carry permits from other states in compliance with the full faith and credit clause, the same clause that makes your drivers lisence and marriage license legal in any of the fifty states.
BS
Feel free to take your dissenting opinion up with the various states that have incorporated specific regulations concerneing the carrying of concealed weapons in their individual state constitutions.
In other words, just become another lackey.
It is TYRANNY.
