So you think Donald Trumps demagoguery on immigration has created problems for the other GOP candidates? Well, another very ripe opportunity for Trump to make his GOP rivals even more miserable may be lurking right around the corner, and it could expose the same sort of schism between GOP elites and GOP voters that Trumps forays into immigration policy have.
Im talking about the massive global trade deal called the Trans-Pacific Partnership. Some time in the next six months in late 2015 or in early 2016 the participating nations may finally reach a deal on the TPP. That may well come just when the GOP primaries are heating up.
Virtually all of the major GOP presidential candidates, including Jeb Bush, Scott Walker, and Marco Rubio, all support the TPP, as do Republican Congressional leaders.
But, in a little noticed move a few days ago, Trump signaled that he might be headed in a very different direction on the TPP soon enough. After his terrific and wonderful rally outside the Capitol the other day, Trump met with Senator Jeff Sessions, and both men enthusiastically recounted that they had had a good conversation about immigration and
. trade. Said Trump: The meeting was great!

The stinking politicians in Washington are defunding the American Centrifuge in Ohio, while sending Iran 200 billion so they can operate their centrifuge..... Go Figure........
Something is really wrong with this country.....
Hillary has already lined up some of her Dem delegates.
I mis-read your original post. I thought you were defending those weasels who have betrayed the people who put them into power.
So I do have to apologize. I got you wrong.
You are right: we need to KNOW we are the bosses before we can tell it to THEM.
“The GOPs Donald Trump nightmare”
ROTFLOL!
This is completely hilarious! Trump is being treated like a rock star on college campuses and polls show he’s the most likely GOP candidate to win the general election. So, seems to me that Trump is really the Democrat’s nightmare. Him and hugely unpopular criminal traitor Hillary Clinton.
How about the Corker Bill? A fellow freeper posted to me just the other day that Cruz had to vote for the Corker Bill so that he could later vote to block it?? He’s no better than a Pelosi supporter if he actually believes that.
And “Fees” are Taxes.
If you control the language, then you control the debate.
See post #66.
I can do without more shirts, electronic gadgets and fruits and vegetables raised in toxic environments. But I cannot do without full employment for my fellow Americans, producing world class high quality products.
Put America and Americans back to work! We do not want to be equals among nations, we want to be superior!
Whatever it takes to ensure the Republican is not elected.
First, the GOP must die.
Everything else comes after that.
I can assure you that Donald knew his VP from before he even started to run. And that VP knows, too.
[All talk and no action] You are so right.
Lots of talk and any action he has taken has been wrong. He talks a real good game about supporting the Constitution and being against the Washington Cartel but his actions don’t support that.
His wife is on hiatus from Goldman Sachs, not quit/resigned, which says to me they have not cut their ties there. His support is all very big money which tells me they know something I don’t, since they don’t support less government, increased border security, lower taxes, tariffs, etc. etc.
He puts on a show of filibustering and shutting down the government when there is zero chance of success but doesn’t stand when it’s important and possible to make a difference.
He made a mistake because he was “lied” to? I’ll bet the last time someone lied to him and he believed it was Santa Claus when he was three.
Cruz is not a dunce.
He's been corrupted.
“I’m waiting for a very persuasive explanation from TC regarding his stances on these matters. It gives some of his supporters, such as I am, pause.”
I think A LOT OF US are with you. We want to think that Cruz has some damn good reasons for supporting Corker, TPP, and H1B’s.
We want to think that.
But he’s leaving us out to dry. Perhaps he could put an explanation on his website...or perhaps some of the Anti-Trump people here (who are mostly pro-Cruz) can help us?
...or else, maybe, Cruz is no different on these issues than the other Republicans who have also sold us out. Cruz is still much better than just about anyone else in the Senate on just about every other issue...but perhaps he is starting to ripen a bit in there?
We all need to be reminded that delegates pick the nominee....not the people.
Yes it is.
TPA assured certain and timely passage of TPP.
The vote will be a mere formality.
Yea, I forgot...I was interchanging the acronyms. My point was that none of this crap is necessary. Republicans WERE NOT elected to cede more power to Obama. We had plenty of Democrats running if we wanted that.
think about it.
Of all plausible and possible scenarios: What goo reason could there be to vote for and advocate for these policies.
There are NONE if you claim to represent the American People.
Good article.
“Team Jeb is: Rubio, Fiorina, Christie, Huckabee, Kasich, Perry, Graham, Pataki and Gilmore.”
Plus Jindal. The Geriatric Old Plotters got to him several years ago.
I take no pleasure from criticizing Cruz on this point.
It goes against the grain for me, because I do like Cruz. I have advocated for him to be the V.P. His vote on support legislation for the TPP left me in the same boat.
Those two issues coupled with his wish to triple the H1-B visas, creates the imperfect Trifecta for me.
I am ruminating over Cruz’s actions when I’d rather be dropping in to praise him regularly.
The folks who dislike Trump trash him for his past beliefs, and praise Cruz despite his current actions.
It’s a strange dichotomy, and frankly it’s why I feel compelled to be more frank about Cruz.
The vote on Corker and then the follow-up protest against the agreement with Iran, seemed very hypocritical to me.
I don’t like that in any candidate.
