Trump, After Republican Pledge, Breaks From Pack On Iran, Gay Marriage By Susan Heavey. WASHINGTON - Leading Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump on Friday broke away from stances held by many of his rivals on issues ranging from the Iran nuclear deal to the gay marriage fight in Kentucky.
Trump's statements in a lengthy interview on MSNBC came one day after signing the party's loyalty pledge.
He called the Iran nuclear agreement "a disastrous deal" and "a horrible contract," but said he would work with it.
Many of the 16 other Republicans seeking the party's nomination for the 2016 presidential election have vowed to immediately undo the Obama administration's agreement if they win office. But Trump, a wealthy businessman, reiterated his view that too much money was at stake and his rivals were wrong to say they would rip it up.
"This is the perfect example of taking over a bad contract," he said, adding that he would be tough in enforcing it.
Closer to home, Trump also eschewed rivals on the Kentucky battle over gay marriage. Some Republicans loudly backed Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis, who opted for jail time rather than issue any marriage licenses following the U.S. Supreme Court's June ruling in support of gay marriage.
"We are a nation of laws," Trump said. "The decision's been made, and that's the law of the land."

Yes, I see all those sanctuary city leaders who don’t agree with the law of the land and don’t obey it or allow it to be enforced, being marched off to jail in leg shackles. Oh wait, they’ve been flouting immigration law for years, with impunity, and they’re still in office too.
Typical GOPe logic - conservatism is illegal and we have to grovel before our liberal masters.
How about we start with immigration laws? Then we can have a court opinion become a law by the legislature.
We have gay marriage now because God I knew someone legally issued gay marriage licenses and then courts made decisions illegally not based on laws. You and Trump don’t see the contradiction and not only liberalize count and that’s the way it is I got you
His signing that pledge was the deal breaker for several...even without any statements he’s made or will make thereafter.
As you said this is no surprise ...no matter how posters take it....he’s in the Gop game play now...so we’ll see how he plays his hand ..this was NOT a good start.
>> Cruz is correct on both these issues.
Cruz is the genuine conservative ideal, in the way that trump supporters fantasize that trump is.
Cruz has my prayers, my steadfast support and my funding. No other.
A marriage is between one woman and one man.
Any “law” that argues otherwise isn’t worth spit. Nor is any country that is so sick and morally depraved as to regard two homo perverts as a married couple.
I don’t care for Trump, but he’s correct here for the reasons you state.
Yeah. That there will be no more Christians in government.
This so-called "law" was made up by the USSC without any precedent whatsoever, save those similarly made up by homosexual and homosexualist judges serving in lower courts.
I'd like to see a muslim shackeled and led off to jail for violating the same precept which they claim is antithetical to their "faith" as well.
Don't hold your breath.
It will get really ugly from here on out. The RNC got what it wanted yesterday. Now they feel they can safely slay the dragon. Kim Davis is a democrat. I think this was set in motion on purpose.
Aside from the mind reading thingy, there is the double facepalm...
We have seen supporters in denial before. IF this is in fact what he said (because reporters need to be verified), then the facade may be cracking.
....”He is a GOPe lackey”...
Maybe....and maybe he’s just playing their game now for greater gain later....ALL is in play but nothing about Trump is ever set in steel. He will play his hand not ours....we don’t hold the cards in this run until later in the game...the candidates do until we vote.
He and Cruz are having a rally on the 9th. And, yes, the money will be released before the next election. You can take that to the bank.
Cruz is one of Trumps major advisers....Cruz wants Trump in the game and vice versa...for a time.
No, NOT a letdown. I definitely see Trumps reasoning here. By claiming that the Kentucky county clerk has to follow the law, Trump can later claim that the MANY sanctuary cities have to obey immigration law. I definitely see this happening.
Exactamundo, FRiend. Trump has taken this tact on a few issues now. Iran, Putin, social issues, etc. He’s framing the debate for when he is POTUS. By striking a “moderate” pose he diffuses the sure to come moonbat attacks.
Bottom line is everything is gum flapping now in the POTUS race. Nothing a candidate says right now is anything more than posturing.
You beat me to it. He has addressed this several times. But don’t expect the Trump haters to care.
Yep, Trump is approving judicial tyranny. The OP is equating that with law created by the legislative will of the people.
It is an unjust law. The way to change it is to follow the template of the Civil Rights movement. Widespread civil disobedience.
....”We have seen supporters in denial before. IF this is in fact what he said (because reporters need to be verified), then the facade may be cracking”.....
Could be so...but might also be Trump thinks his base is strong enough now to get in the GOP game plays in order to expand his voter base......during a political race most candidates will shift left and right along the way to do whatever it takes to win voter numbers....the very reason it’s wise to know and understand a candidates prior History.......on that note Trump makes me very nervous should he win the nominee.
Yes that is why he is at the top of my list.
