Donald Trump: Putin would return 'total traitor' Snowden if I'm president
The Washington Times ^ | 7/9/2015 | David Sherfinski

Posted on 08/22/2015 12:23:12 AM PDT by JediJones

“If I’m president, Putin says ‘hey, boom — you’re gone’ — I guarantee you that,” Mr. Trump said in an interview with CNN.

Mr. Trump called Mr. Snowden...a “total traitor” and said he “would deal with him harshly.”

“And if I were president, Putin would give him over. I would get along with Putin. I’ve dealt with Russia,” Mr. Trump said.

“He would never keep somebody like Snowden in Russia — he hates [President] Obama; he doesn’t respect Obama. Obama doesn’t like him either. But he has no respect for Obama, has a hatred for Obama, and Snowden is living the life,” he said.

Mr. Trump...also said he’s not interested in a vice presidential position...

“It’s not that I wouldn’t — it’s a phenomenal position,” he said. “I think it’s a very powerful position … it’s not for me.

"If I do the third-party thing, it would be, I think, very bad for the Republicans. I think it would be very bad in terms of beating the Democrats, and we have to win.”

He said without independent candidate Ross Perot in the 1992 presidential race, “you would have never heard of Bill Clinton.”

Ok, Trump needs to take another look at what Snowden did, which was to uphold the Constitution and exposed the un-Constitutional activities of the federal government, the unjustified intrusions into the privacy of We The People, the wholesale collection of data without warrants, Snowden might be many things, but he exposed wrongdoing and we wouldn't have any idea of what had been going on if he hadn't stepped up and blown the whistle.

Taking refuge in Russia may not have been the best move he could have made, but considering the mutual animus between Putin and Obama, it was probably the only really safe refuge he could make use of, and once his passport was axed by the State Department while he was in transit, his options were reduced to just one.

A lot of people believe in this mythology around Snowden. Fact is he spread a great deal of lies, damaged national security, and on his hands is a lot of American money and blood from victims of terrorism in the middle east.

What victims of terrorism in the Middle East are you referring to? Is it mythology that he exposed illegal acts by the federal government? To my knowledge, there hasn’t been any proven evidence of a direct link between Snowden’s revelations and ‘a lot of American money and blood’ being lost.

That’s all true, but Trump is playing to the crowd. Facts, truth, Bill of Rights don’t matter. If the mob wants a scapegoat, Trump will give them one. He doesn’t care. It would be interesting to see what Trump would trade for Snowden, though. Maybe he could promise Putin Ukraine would stay out of NATO — that would make Soros and the neocons (and the Bidens) very angry.

Some people confuse Snowden with Bradley ("Chelsea") Manning. Manning just dumped out whatever information he had cross his desk at his army intel job. It was mostly stuff about Iraq. State Dep cables, videos of military operations, memos about informants and military tactics. It defeintely undermined the US war effort and probably got a few killed.

Snowden collected evidence of the NSA's systemic violations of the Fourth Amendment.

I can see the crowd responding, but what about all the principled conservatives who have vowed never again to vote for the lesser of two evils?

Wait and see if the Constitution Party nominates someone competent.

I am not so sure Snowden is a traitor.

Well, there is this one other problem with Snowden. He basically emptied out the whole library of documentation. If he’d had ten accusations to make and copied forty documents to prove his accusations....we might approve of his tactics. But in this case....he copied literally millions of publications and says he’ll protect the vast number but just every four to six weeks....expose something that he thinks is of vital interest. This could all continue on....for years...for the vital interest concept of Snowden. At this point....it’s more of a comedy than an effort of an honest guy.

I suspect when January of 2017 arrives and if it’s Trump....there’s going to be this sixty-day count-down where Trump and Putin meet, and Putin will grin and say it’s time for Snowden to be handed over. Snowden will stand there in disbelief, and discover that he was simply a pawn of Putin in this game of ‘chess’ with Obama.

I love how you make up stuff about Trump out of pure ether, and no facts. You just think Trump would do what you would do. You project your ideas on trump without any reason. Just like Obama voters did in 2008.

He doesn’t want to win the nomination. He doesn’t want to be president. If he were the nominee, Hillary would have a chance at 70%. He’d be a complete laughingstock when everything about him comes out. So what I do is of no relevance.

Snowden should marry a Russian Girl and become a Russian Citizen. If he comes back to the USA he will only face a prison cell for a lot of years—he better get used to Vodka and Borst—and the cold weather.

Maybe he could promise Putin Ukraine would stay out of NATO....

Alternatively, he could get Putin to promise to get out of Ukraine. One can dream.
