If you ask me, Cupp is pulling popcorn out her butt with this comparison. She ineptly compares a large, nationally weak filled post Nixon Democrat slate with the large slate on the current Republican platform.

Finally, squeezed (much like that from a dog, frankly) in the article, she comes up with the ammo to shoot her whole thesis in the brain.

...Carter biographer Laurence Shoup writes that it was the media's "favorable coverage of Carter and his campaign that gave him an edge, propelling him rocket-like to the top of the opinion polls

Why yes, S.E. (whatever the hell that stands for), you're brilliant! Insightful, prescient, wizened beyond all our ken. We can all certainly see the similarities here with the media and everybody doing all the cutesy puff-pieces on Trump, can't we? Idiot.

All she's trying to do with this abortion of words is to invoke the disaster of Jimmy Carter and transfix that on a Trump candidacy/presidency. She doesn't have to go that far; we've got 7 years of it right here with Hussein.

Ms. Cupp is wizened? Look up the word, then look at a picture of her. Whatever else you might say of her, wizened she is not.

...the media's "favorable coverage of Carter and his campaign that gave him an edge, propelling him rocket-like to the top of the opinion polls"

Notice that the only part of the article which makes sense is quoted from another author.

And i remember some of that media coverage. Time magazine articles on the Carter campaign would have four-color spread illustrations, while two pages over Ford's appearances were depicted in B&W. Didn't take much headscratching to puzzle out which candidate was the Establishment's favorite.
