Recent reports have unveiled the utterly barbaric practices of Planned Parenthood. Not only do doctors snuff out the lives of millions of unborn children they allegedly transfer and sell their body parts. That is deplorable, and Americans across the country have been righteously outraged.
The discovery comes weeks after the Iowa Supreme Court ruled in favor of Planned Parenthood and reauthorized the practice of telemedical abortions. Contradicting a 2013 conclusion by the Iowa Board of Medicine that telemed abortions should cease, the Court cleared a path to take the lives of the unborn through drugs authorized via webcam and administered at home, with no medical supervision.
Both the harvesting of fetal tissue and telemed abortions are tragic and horrific practices; they provide a clarifying moment for our nation. The question of abortion should not be an issue of partisan politics, or even of differing faith backgrounds. It is a fundamental question of justice, and of whether we still hold true those immortal words of our founders that we are endowed by our Creator with certain unalienable Rights, the first of which is life.
Abortion is the stain on our nations modern history. We should end it.
My mom Eleanor lost her first child, my half-brother Michael, when he was an infant. One morning she went into his room and he had slept into eternity. He was just a few months old. My mother was devastated. To this day, I do not know a greater prayer warrior for the unborn than my mom.
Today, I am the proud father of two girls. I can remember when Heidi was pregnant with our second daughter, Catherine, Caroline went up to her stomach with her most treasured blanket, bink, and she asked, Catherine want to chew on bink? This was the most precious thing she owned and she was offering it up to her little unborn sister.
I have fought tirelessly to defend the unborn and I will continue to do so.
As Solicitor General of Texas, I was proud to successfully defend a federal law that bans partial birth abortion and to lead 18 states in defending New Hampshires parental notifications laws, both cases that we successfully won at the Supreme Court, marking two significant victories for life. While neither of these measures remove the scourge of abortion entirely, they continue shine the light on the atrocity and move us closer to doing so.
During my time in the Senate, I have continued to fight for life. I am an original cosponsor of the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, to ban abortions after 20 weeks. I introduced a measure to stop the D.C. Council from forcing organizations to fund abortion services. And when Texas State Senator Wendy Davis and an army of abortion advocates tried to squelch legislation designed to protect the unborn, I proudly stood with the vast majority of Texans to protect the rights of the unborn. Each battle for life has shifted the culture, and we are seeing public opinion increasingly recognize the inherent value and dignity of every person, born and unborn.
In light of the most recent and shocking revelations about the atrocious practices of Planned Parenthood, Congress should immediately investigate Planned Parenthoods alleged practices and completely defund the organization.
I have spoke with my friend Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, and I am hopeful that either the full committee or the Oversight subcommittee that I chair will convene those hearings soon. It is past time to ensure that not one taxpayer cent goes to an organization that has been sadly flawed from the start.
Additionally, law enforcement–state and federal–should investigate the facts behind Planned Parenthood’s apparent sale of body parts, and fully prosecute any violations of criminal law.
It is woven into the very fabric of our national character to cherish life. Now its time to back the promise of the Declaration with our deeds. Now is the time to take action. I believe we can restore a national affirmation for Gods greatest gift to us life itself.
Throughout his entire life, Ted Cruz has proven to be a passionate and effective fighter for limited government, economic growth, and the Constitution.
Teds calling to public service has been inspired by his first-hand observation of the pursuit of freedom and opportunity in America. Teds mother, Eleanor, was born in Delaware to an Irish and Italian working-class family. She became the first in her family to go to college, graduated from Rice University with a degree in mathematics, and became a pioneering computer programmer in the 1950s.
After being tortured and imprisoned in Cuba, Teds father, Rafael, fled to the United States to attend the University of Texas at Austin in 1957. He then started a small business in the oil and gas industry. Today, Teds father is a pastor in Dallas.
Growing up, his father would often say to him:
When we faced oppression in Cuba, I had a place to flee to. If we lose our freedom here, where do we go?
Ted has been a tireless fighter for liberty his entire life because his family knows what it is like to lose it.
As Solicitor General for the State of Texas and in private practice, Ted authored more than 80 U.S. Supreme Court briefs and argued 43 oral arguments, including nine before the U.S. Supreme Court, and has won an unprecedented series of landmark national victories including defending U.S. sovereignty against the UN and the World Court in Medellin v. Texas, defending our Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms, defending the constitutionality of the Ten Commandments monument at the Texas State Capitol and the words under God in the Pledge of Allegiance.
In the U.S. Senate, Ted has led the fight to repeal Obamacare, to stop President Obamas illegal and unconstitutional executive amnesty, and to defend life, marriage, the First Amendment, the Second Amendment, and our entire Bill of Rights. And most important, hes kept his promise to speak the truth and do what he said hed do.
Ted has proven to be the exact type of courageous conservative we need to reignite the promise of America, restore our Constitution, and defend the values we all hold dear.
Ted, his wife Heidi, their two daughters Caroline and Catherine, and his entire family have been blessed to live the American Dream the idea that anyone, through hard work and determination, can achieve anything. And he is committed to ensuring every family has that same opportunity.

Ted drives the higher morality home. Iowans will certainly take notice.
I just love when you post this. Words... that were backed up with action. Unlike our modern day politicians... just words only. My I use this graphic?
ALL LIVES MATTER, including the unborn.
ALL ISSUES MATTER ! , some here say that illegal immigration is the only top issue now, bull crap !
All issues matter, abortion, gay marriage, taxes, the economy, national defense.
Be my guest!
Here is a Canadian that loves Ted Cruz. It’s really hard for me to get my head around why so many approve of abortion. Is it simply a pecking order to them? The unborn baby is simply less fully human than the mother, and so she reserves the right to terminate the entity? If that is so, am I in my right to shoot the dog next door that keeps me up at night?
Wait...isn't that the same as saying ALL LIVES MATTER? But those blacks told O'Malley that is RACIST, didn't they?
My mom and dad had fraternal twims about ten years before I was born. She lost my brother the same way when he was about two or three months. I don't think my mom has ever really gotten over it. In many ways neither has my sister.
Wait...isn't that the same as saying ALL LIVES MATTER? But those blacks told O'Malley that is RACIST, didn't they?
I don’t know that these two expressions have the same meaning or application for all of life for all times. As a WWII overseas vet I valued my life more than that of any Jap (a wartime expression). Even more so when I was thinking of my brother’s death in battle on Okinawa.
Senator Cruz should author legislation that diverts the tax payer millions way from PP and gives it christian centric pregnancy centers.
Excellent article. Thanks for Posting.
Absolutely Cruz.
