Any simpleton can stick their head out a window and tell if it is raining, but having an advanced eduction in meteorology and climatology gives one the merit to discuss climate and its effects on the planet. Having knowlege of patterns and weather phenomena provides the basis for meteorological conditions that are required for flight planning (as an example).
