Maybe we should rethink the food stamp program if children need the government to feed them year round.

Exactly! The only hungry kids in the US are ones whose parents are negligent. Some people sell their food stamps for drugs. Even considering that, how many different food programs do we have? Besides food stamps, food supplied at school and over the summer, food pantries, churches, etc., how can anyone in this country be hungry? The only ones I can imagine are those on the streets who are addicts or have mental health problems.

Because, "...the vast majority of them go without this essential, federally funded benefit."

If people start doing the responsible thing, them "essential federally funded benefits" won't be so essential and that is not an option to them that rules.
