TEXAS REPUBLICAN SENATORS DEFY CONSTITUENTS’ LOUD CRIES FOR ACTION / CONVENTION OF STATES

TEXAS REPUBLICAN SENATORS DEFY CONSTITUENTS’ LOUD CRIES FOR ACTION TO STOP THE OUT-OF-CONTROL FEDERAL GOVERNMENT Senators in State Affairs Skirt Vote to Avoid Accountability on HJR 77 With A Few Hours Left To Vote, Republican Senators Give ‘Thumbs Down’ to Supporting Constitutional Efforts to Bring Power Back to the States AUSTIN, Texas, May 26— In a massive grassroots initiative during the 84th legislative session in Texas, constituents propelled an Article V resolution, HJR 77, to victory in the House 80-62 on May 14. It was then sent directly to the Senate State Affairs Committee. This week, cowardice and defiance were on full display by Republican Senators Craig Estes (SD-30), Troy Fraser (SD-24) and Jane Nelson (SD-12), who either skipped the Memorial Day hearing for HJR 77 altogether or ran and hid from constituents who were trying to educate them on the bill and answer questions. The committee Chair on multiple occasions in the last 48 hours attempted to convene the committee during Senate recesses, but Senators Estes, Fraser and Nelson were witnessed by constituents quickly exiting the Senate Floor, thus preventing a quorum and vote on HJR 77. “What I have witnessed in Texas over the past few days has been both inspiring and disgusting,” says Mark Meckler, Convention of States Co-founder and President of Citizens for Self-Governance. “In multiple districts, Senators were overwhelmed by the calls and emails in support of the Convention of States resolution, HJR 77. We tracked every petition and our volunteers visited every office dozens of time, truly a grassroots fire in Texas.”

The why doesn't escape me but apparently it escapes you. You people are asking politicians to vote against their long term financial future. The is no chance of that happening. Look and learn from the last time this was tried. All kinds of political dirty moves. DC doesn't follow the law now why will they follow any new ones that restrict their means of making millions in payoffs? You are naive. Sure some will tow the line just for appearances, but never enough to make a CoS happen.

From your link....TX State Senator Birdwell gives State Sen Estes an EPIC smack down of an explanation on Article V, of the US Constitution.

Estes claims a COS will be out of control (fear, rather than truth) and hurt the Constitution. Birdwell sets Estes straight.

Kudos to Sen Birdwell!

Oh, okay...then, let’s all just go hide under our rock, holding on tight to our surrender monkey white flags. That’s the answer. /s

The COS Project should try to get a record of recent meetings that these three Republicans have been in, to determine whether various GOP-e and Federal officials were present.

For all we know, McConnell and Boehner could be sending them letters telling them, in effect, “Well done, good and faithful servants. You know how the game is played.”

Before I forget, let’s see if these three have been instrumental in steering various federal grants or lobbying for them. Could be a COS resolution could wind up with “No grants for you!”

Congress still has to call the convention. Expect some serious foot-dragging if the 2/3 majority of states is reached.

What normalcy bias??? If 2/3 of the states are reached, we would probably have to shut down DC with protesters in order to move it through Congress.

I’m fine with a convention of states, in case you were wondering. I’m just saying, it will still be an uphill climb with Congress itself when the 2/3 majority of states is reached.

Agree, that was a superb response from Senator Birdwell.

It takes force to counter force, and the people via their states have it.

History says you are wrong. Congress is still the gate keeper and any convention that proceeds without their certification will be declared void.

Where did I say that? This is all just a distraction to give some hope. Besides it will be years even decades before any changes can happen - to late. Better than a false hope tilting at windmills.

Do you remember the thousands of protestors when obamacare was passed? Pelosi and her minions walked right through the middle as if to say “Screw you!” And nothing happened. They claimed people yelled racist comments but no proof of that could ever be found.

So all the protestors in DC that could get there in a week wouldn’t matter. First of all, they’d all leave town. Second, there’d be an army around congress.

A government that does not obey the Constitution will not obey an amended Constitution.
