Prepare to say goodbye to TLC show “19 Kids and Counting.”

The family-centric reality show is being pulled from the network’s TV schedule one day after Josh Duggar issued an apology following molestation allegations, Page Six has learned.

It’s unclear if the network has made any permanent decisions regarding the show’s future but information about the show remains on the network’s site as of Friday.

You’re one of the few that has brought up concern for the victims of these crimes and their parents’ apparent indifference. Probably no surprise given the Dugger’s patriarchal cult calls for males to dominate females at every opportunity. Sickening.

There seems to be an odd compassion towards Josh Duggar. I feel more compassion towards his victims who had to see him daily and likely they didn’t get help to deal with what happened to them.

It’s a good principle to teach daughters to dress modestly, for their protection. This is good in a normal environment.

It’s obvious that not everything is normal in this household. It would not surprise me, if having so many children made it difficult to connect with them deeply.

S’ok. When I first heard about this I assumed they’d found him shagging or heavily making out with a teenage girlfriend at the time.

Not quite.

Yes. For many reasons. The biggest summary of these reasons are that for all other purposes, we acknowledge that a 14 year old is not mentally capable of making adult decisions, of reasoning as an adult (driving a car, drinking alcohol/smoking tobacco, signing a legal contract).

But the bigger reason is that when we try a 14 year old as an adult, for violent crimes, we are patting ourselves on the back because, oh boy, we protected ourselves from the evil 14 year old. When all we did is put this person in jail for some ridiculous amount of time, only ensuring if and when they come out of the prison system they will be a violent criminal.

How sad for the Duggars daughters that the parents chose to protect the son over them. Forgiving the sinner is good but protecting children from someone who sees them as sexual objects is great.
True forgiveness requires repentance and responsibility. They should have turned their son over to the authorities, faced his rightful punishment and helped his victims. Then they would all be worthy of forgiveness.

Instead, we have a molester and his enablers. They're all sick, almost as sick as the "conservatives" so eager to forgive his crimes because he comes from a famous family.

Listening to Dr. Laura, I hear the victims of incest who were not protected by their parents and it makes me have disgust towards the parents who forgave the molester and the victims suffered often becoming dysfunctional as a wife or acting out as teenagers.

This guy did a very bad thing when he was a teenage kid - there’s no diminishing this. There is, however, absolutely nothing to suggest he had sex with or raped anyone. That is something you are making up. No one is deserving of God’s Grace - it is a gift he offers that we can accept or reject.

Your comments are very disturbing. From what we know now about present situation, between the two of you, you are now the one with the serious issues.

Well, that is correct. Repenting and being forgiven do not discard the fact there are still earthly consequences for their actions - though I’m not sure prosecutions will take place for things that occurred well over a decade ago when he was himself a minor child. The incidents also did not involve sex or rape...that does not in any way diminish how bad what he did was, however, the effects and consequences on both the offender and the victim are much different. Sort of like breaking into someone’s home and stealing their valuables vs. burning the house and everything in it to the ground. The former is still reprehensible, and inexcusable and cannot be diminished for how bad this act is, however, the long-term effects and consequences are not as severe as the latter for both the perpetrator and the victims.

Aside from that, the decision to start that TV show really has to be called into question. The parents should have never done this knowing this was in the past as there was always a chance it could be dug up and get national scrutiny - putting back into the face of the victims with wide media prominence as well as their son who had apparently long moved on and overcame this demon - all being thrown back into his face - which never would have occurred. Seriously disturbing.

That’s a very fair thing to discuss - not fair to the daughters to have something like this lurking in the background that could be thrust into the national scene, and if Josh overcame this demon and truly repented of this sin from when he was teenager as an adult man - not fair to him either. This show should have never occurred - they are naïve to have apparently though this old thing from the past could never be discovered.

The penetration thing (vs. touching) is not something I had seen in any report, and I was getting rather agitated with some indicating he had intercourse with them which there was nothing I could find to suggest that. If you try to correct it you get accused of trying to rationalize or diminish what occurred - that’s just not correct - if anything those exaggerating cause other serious things to be diminished. I don’t really care to research this in any greater detail given how disturbing and sick it is.

In any event, it is inexcusable, disgusting conduct. Very bad is an understatement. However, if he was truly able to overcome this demon as he grew into an adult, and it appears that he did - including per his wife confessing this to her before she agreed to marry him, and he and the family were all able to heal (as far as we know...but obviously we didn’t know everything about this family), then that is an amazingly and improbably good result to come out of a horrifically bad situation. What isn’t good is when you make the decision to put your family on a TV show and make them international celebrities with something in the background like this that could be exposed and not only reopen those old wounds but make them an international spectacle and potentially make it all worse than ever and potentially tear the family apart. Why in the world would you take that kind of a risk? No amount of money is worth that.

I did not say Josh had intercourse with his sisters/victims, but that he raped them by as a police reported described via “forceable fondling.”

My guess is that had a stranger jumped out of the bushes and forcibly fondled Josh’s sister, we would all be calling it rape.

What he did was disgusting, reprehensible, and inexcusable, but it was 12 years ago

But maybe it's every single day for his victims. Any kind of genuine apology would've included prayers for his victims whose lives he's irreparably changed.

Maybe it’s not. What makes you think he hasn’t apologized to his victims?

I certainly hope he's apologized to his victims. But sexual abuse doesn't just go away for its victims. So what you're saying is that Josh still needs prayers but the girls raised in that dysfunctional environment don't?

As an aside, my wife has been saying for years that she felt Jana Duggar (the oldest girl) was the victim of sexual abuse. Now it turns out that she may be the only one who wasn't. In any case, I don't think the Devil just showed up at Josh's doorstep one day and forced him to molest his sisters. I think the whole lifestyle - the unsanitary long hair on the women, the forced long skirt wearing, and the really weird, controlling courtship rules gave the kids a perverted view of sexuality, i.e. the Duggars very lifestyle invited the Devil into their home.

What I find particularly disturbing is how the application of “sharia law” (Christian version) has been applied and so this has all been “dealt with”. Remember - he who bears the sword bears it on God’s behalf. If there is a legal recourse available at this point, he should be prosecuted and jailed according to the laws of our society.

Another point I think may be pertinent here - there is an admonition to those who desire to take on leadership roles to be especially careful about things. Jimbob and Michelle holding themselves and their family up as some sort of godly ideal surely fits with that category.

Sadly, there may be undue glee and joy among “the enemy” for what has befallen the Duggars, but the parent’s behavior made it all possible. And Josh assuming a leadership role with a Christian advocacy group was also not a good idea. I wonder if he was vetted properly by the FRC?

PS - Keep an eye on Jimbob. The son may be exhibiting learned behavior.

I think you are right. A lot of things about this family were very bizarre. For instance, men couldn't wear shorts or even go to the beach (where they would see scantily clad women). Strange courtship rituals. Guilt and shame tactics were used to control them.

This isn't so much a Christian family as a cult.

Repression often leads to perversion and we see that here.

Unfortunately, this freakish family, made famous by their TV show, has done great damage to normal conservative, Christian families, who will now get painted with the broad brush.

I didn’t say that at all. You assumed Josh has not apologized/repented to the girls.

Their lifestyle is different but not sure how that equates to perversion. It’s easy to lash out because we all want to find a reason why this happened. I think they raise their kids in a conservative Godly manner that foremost includes repentance and forgiveness. One child (that we know of) went astray and they seemed to have dealt with it years ago. I am not making light of this but what good comes from outing Josh et all at this point in time? He seems to have turned his life around as far as we know.

God’s healing grace is a wonderful thing. Sad this came out NOW where the entire family has to relive this horror. I’m sure bashing the family isn’t helping the victims either. THEY have to live with this. Not you and not me.

I can’t even imagine how these girls feel TODAY. They have already been tortured enough in the past by their own brother. Enough.
