Let's Celebrate the Death of the Mainstream Media
Townhall ^ | 18 May 2015 | Kurt Schlichter

Posted on 05/18/2015 11:26:20 AM PDT by Rummyfan

Picking on the mainstream media is easier than offending radical feminists, and almost as much fun, but just because it’s barely a challenge doesn’t mean we shouldn’t do it. We should. We must.

All decent, patriotic Americans yearn for the day when the effects of emerging technologies combine with the mainstream media’s insufferable progressive cheerleading to finally destroy it. Its death throes are underway, but it won’t buy the farm overnight. The body of the mainstream media is still shambling along, wreaking havoc, long after it its brain has died. So we need to put down the mainstream media like we would any other mindless zombie.

If we made a show about it, we could call it The Lying, Lame, Liberal-Licking Dead.

Maybe it’s cruel to look at all these doomed liberals who worked their way up to the middle ranks of the media and laugh. Maybe it’s petty to smile when yet another newsroom announces yet another round of lay-offs. Maybe it’s just plain mean to point out that Newsweek sold for what I earned in under twenty minutes charbroiling Famous Star cheeseburgers at the Carl’s, Jr., in Foster City, California, back in 1981. Maybe I can help out these soon-to-be unemployed reporters with some hints about how to make fries.

I wish. But the MSM, who's influence is definitely waning, still sets the context for everything we discuss. If they didn't we wouldn't be fixated on what pleases a twisted 3% of our population.

They're in a race now, to fill the country with enough clients of the welfare state to tip the balance permanently towards statist progressives before MSM influence is completely gone.

Any non-Democrat surrounded by the nimbus of odor surrounding, say—Hillary Clinton—would be faced with a daily drumbeat from the newspapers, magazines and TV urging him to “do the right thing” and resign.

And if you were to ask this scribe, “Hey. Didn’t you actively support this guy’s opponent?” well, whichever `George’ it was would act offended, would interpose his journalistic objectivity, professionalism, the 1st amendment, the kitchen sink, and so forth.

That dog don’t hunt no more. The middle has finally figured out what we came to understand a long time ago. The MSM is an arm of the Democrat party: expecting them to be objective is like asking a hungry bulldog to pass on a meaty bone.

Everyone should make it a priority to attack and denigrate the media at every opportunity.

Even a small effort such as a letter to the editor in local papers talking about the intertwined relationships with people like Clintons and Georgie or C. Matthews is a step in making people who don't normally take an interest in politics take note and maybe become suspicious of what they hear and read.

I wish Republican candidates would employ attacking the media as a central part of any campaign strategy. Attack, attack attack. For all his warts Newt excelled at this.

No one cheers more than me when one of the liberal media dinosaurs takes its last breath. But also nagging in the back of my mind is one little discordant note. For at least twenty years, I’ve been hearing (ad nauseum) the optimistic drumbeat of how technology is breaking the back of the liberal media monopoly and how it will usher in a vibrant wave of conservativism as new voices break through, and eventually remedy the left-leaning list of the nation.

Yet, all I’ve really seen is the country exponentially rushing more leftward, and the populace as a whole becoming both vastly more dumbed down and more degenerate. The optimism of twenty years ago has hardly panned out, to put it mildly.

Why do we acquiesce in leftist values by calling their media “mainstream”? Why not call it what it is — communist? (OK, “socialist,” for those who are afraid of the c-word.) Why should we care whether it is the majority view?

They—ABC at least—are digging their own grave.
George Stephanopulous is ABC’s chief news anchor and as well fills a couple other important seats at Already Been Chewed “news”.

I don’t have much faith in the probity of the American voting public after returning to their vomit with Obama; having said that, however, most Americans including lefties (even if they won’t admit it) can’t escape the conclusion that there must be some kind of MSM agenda, or at least at ABC.

This particular alphabet news truth ministry, when they have a partisan like George Baggins at the helm calling shots is just a veracity-challenged variation on NBC’s Brian Wilson, the `Commander McBragg’ of the chattering class.

Ridicule is much more effective than attack. Laugh at the fact that the mainstream media tries to insult the intelligence of the public. Even low-information voters have egos. If you are able to communicate that they are being made fun of and considered stupid, I believe they will catch on. They did so with Kanye West at last night’s music awards. (Booed him.) It’s a start.

DEET.

Although I think it's more precise to refer to the condition as being a result of suicide.
