A prominent attorney admits to taking flags from the graves of soldiers, a move that's sparked both positive reaction and calls for him to be arrested and disbarred. He's also received death threats and hate mail.
The lawyer says his actions are meant to promote unity.
A bag of small Confederate flags sits at Union Springs City Hall. They were removed from graves at an old Confederate cemetery downtown, behind the Red Door Theater, near the intersection of Highway 82 and North Prairie Street.
Myron Penn pulled up the flags with his family on Mother's Day. Penn, a founding partner at Penn & Seaborn Attorneys at Law in Union Springs, who served as state senator for two terms and as chairman of the Bullock County Commission, says he did it for his 4-year-old son.
The reason why we picked them up is because the image of the flags in our community, a lot of people feel that they're a symbol of divisiveness and oppression of many people in our community, Penn said. Especially with the history that that flag and the connotation and negativism that it brings. I would think that no one in our community would have a problem with this or with my actions at all.

Your posting history seems to suggest that you came here mainly to stir up racial issues, a FR version of Jessie Jackson. So yes, at this point you look like a troll. A few reasonable sounding posts at the beginning while the mods are still watching the newbies, then you start playing your single note.
Well, apparently truth is another virtue that you lack.
My first post to you on the thread was 24 - no invective there. You replied in post 24 with a 'stupid'.
I then suggested confusion on your part about the flag of 1941 and the flag of today in post 46 - still no name calling. You backed off the name calling in your 49. I didn't resort to 'politically correct' until post 51. Which, on this issue, you are. I threw in a 'prole' for good measure.
You responded with 'treasonous prole' in post 103. I suggested you were anti-veteran in 106 for opposition to VA grave markers being installed per statute. You responded with 'bub' in 113. From there, I called you a bigot, questioned your knowleged of history, You replied with a couple of 'bubs' and questioned why I was anti-semitic. (I would have thought that you would be the one with problems with Judah Benjamin, not me, but we didn't go down that path).
I questioned your morality at 136, you replied with a pathetic at 137. I pointed out your historical ignorance again in post 221.
I didn't get to 'liberal, brainwashed, south hating yankee' until post 241. You then flipped out on the references to Admiral Poindexter (who was from Indiana, not the south, by the way).
So if you can work with numbers, you can see that you, not I, started it, but I have joined battle with vigor.
Listen Reb, I’ve been dealing with you Lost Causers going on about three years now and the invective started the moment I posted on the first CW thread I got on to. I was called a “Lincoln boot licker, ‘’, f’ing Yankke, you name it. I don’t like Confederates and I sure as hell don’t like you. So piss off.
Way to stay on topic rather than just hurling insults.
You are the one who found a stale thread to stir up.
I didn’t know it was an old thread until after I had posted in it.
My ancestors also started a war of secession from Great Britain, back when yours were obediently serving the Crown.
Great Britain announced two emancipation declarations during the Revolution, which hasn’t stopped you from supporting that particular secession. So much for your anti-slavery posturing.
The truth is you just get off on hatemongering the South, like your twins over at the Southern Poverty Law Center.
