Fox News host grills Ted Cruz on being too conservative to get independents

Ted Cruz knocks it out of the park again.

Ted was on with Martha MacCallum this morning who grilled him on getting independents versus just sticking with the base. MacCallum started with the premise that Cruz is too conservative but he refuted that nonsense and told her that he’s already seeing a wider coalition of voters including Reagan Democrats and independents among his supporters. But she still insisted on sticking with her premise, asking Cruz if he even wants the independent vote. Cruz responded that of course he wants independents. He explained to MacCallum, as he as told others in the past, that his common sense principles are something that most Americans can agree on and that will draw independents as well as conservatives.

MacCallum also asked him about his comments on concealed carry on military bases and that he had been pressing McCain, and that McCain says he doesn’t remember being pressed by Cruz. He admitted that he may have misspoke in saying he’s been pressing McCain, as he’s been pressing the Senate Armed Services Committee and that McCain is the new Chairman of that committee.

I haven’t watched Fox news since the bloviating gasbag what’s his face stabbed the Swift Boat Veterans and POW’s for Truth in the back. I guess that’s been over a decade now.

Hmm... I’m double digits on FR. Wow!

I feel like complaining to Fox that this was not an interview but taking sides. She could ask Cruz his positions but not editorialize on his being too conservative for independents.

Its far too early to say if Jeb is too liberal for independents, just like we don’t know if Tea Party people won’t any longer accept Rand, or Rubio.

I don’t see Fox going after Dems or Rinos with this level of animosity

Anyone can tell me how to send a complaint to Roger Ailes?

No one should be fooled into thinking Martha MacCallum didn’t vote for the Marxist. She is a New York Metro Area media type. No way she’ll ever understand Ted Cruz.

The dumb blonde actually quoted Rove in the interview like the guy has a record of winning...its laughable.

Saw the interview and thought it was great. She didn't just glaze over his position, she actually had thoughtful and strong follow ups that Cruz met head on and responded honestly and without hesitation. This is an example of how the alphabets will try and discredit him. Ted Cruz is becoming more and more appealing to me as this campaign continues

Previous Republican presidential candidates were anything but “too conservative”. And how did that work out? Maybe we should try a real conservative, for a change.

Reagan paradigm -

don’t cater to the independents,
educate them on why your position is the best.

The moderate GOP squishes think independents cannot possibly be conservative.

Inadvertently demonstrating why squishes rarely win elections.

The American people are crying for leadership for 2016 the way they did back in 1980. The GOP candidate in 1980 was a conservative but he spoke with clarity and conviction. He was able to attract voters from all over the political spectrum because he followed a simple premise of saying what you mean and meaning what you say. Americans want someone they can believe in. They don’t necessarily have to support every political view he espouses, but they need someone they feel comfortable with who can lead the country.

It would seem that Martha MacCallum needs to add a book to her reading list ....

Consider how often GOP-E stooges claim conservatives cost GOP elections when the facts say otherwise. They just can’t admit that Romney and McCain couldn’t attract the ‘moderate’ voters they thought they were appealing to.
