John Kasich says he's more conservative than Scott Walker

Governor John Kasich of Ohio, who would like to run for president, is upset when people imply that he's a liberal.

Gov. John R. Kasich was sipping coffee in the sun-drenched garden room of his official residence, boasting about his “Ohio story” of economic recovery, when he was told that some Republicans thought a fellow Midwestern governor, Scott Walker of Wisconsin, was more conservative. He bolted upright.

“I think I have the right to define what conservatism is,” Mr. Kasich roared, launching into a breathless oration about tax cuts, the mentally ill, prison reform, faith in American culture, unwed motherhood, welfare and why he hates being called a “compassionate conservative.”

He's certainly done some conservative things in Ohio.  He's repealed the state estate tax, tried to limit collective bargaining rights for government workers (which was overturned in referendum, as enraged Ohio voters demanded that the boot of organized labor rest securely on their throats), cut funding to abortion-loving Planned Parenthood, and passed a bill requiring women getting abortions to get ultrasounds to help them make an informed decision about ending their baby's lives.

But on the other hand, he's passed a small cut in the state income tax and replaced it with increases in sales taxes and business taxes, rather than cutting waste from government spending.  Kasich is proud of spending millions of dollars to send community organizers into ghettos to persuade pregnant mothers not to smoke and to eat right.  What business does government have to do this?  If they're smart enough to vote, aren't they smart enough to make these decisions for themselves?

They’re all conservative before the election.

Yep. Even a lot of the Dems that I've watched over the years.

The John Kasich from the 1990s may have been. But the John Kasich from the 2010s who said that it was our Christian Duty to increase Welfare and Food Stamp spending isn’t. Sorry John, you’re time passed a long time ago.

Kasich’s problem is that he’s not warm and fuzzy enough for Americans in general. Kasich can get a little prickly and that will upset the coveted moderate voter block.

Even Jebster, the Democrat in all but label only, claims to be conservative in spite of all of his liberal positions.

Just look up what Kasich said about expanding Ohio’s Medicaid rolls. He uses Bible quotes to support his position. A Phony!

Weren’t he and Joe Scarborough big buddies with Gary Condit when they all served in the House together? I think they partied hard together and all left elective office at the same time — Condit reluctantly and the other two “escaped”, as I remember.

Kasich reached the peak of his career doing budget work in the US House. Now he needs to just shutup and stay in Ohio.

Wasn’t Kasich for the US Chambers “Illegal-Immigration reform”? That in reality is amnesty and open borders, there’s nothing “Conservative” about that, with many of us it’s one issue that will eliminate someone from consideration. I haven’t heard much from the chamber or their supportes such as cochran and wicker about illegal immigration or amnesty since obama did their dirty work for them and the rino @$$&!#*$ couldn’t find a way to stop the spending to fund it.

I don't know what to make of John Kasich. Perhaps he should be asked to "define conservative". As governor, he seems real fond of initiatives that line contributors pockets, justifying them with the "for the people" rhetoric.

In some ways, he's saved OH. But for whom? The poor get expanded Medicare, the elite get the profits from their medical bills. The poor get some construction jobs, the corporate owners get untold millions in profits. The OH state budget is in better shape, but towns and residential areas of cities are starving for services.

I don't see Kasich as a person who would ever be about downsizing government and bringing it closer to the people. But I don't write him off. He ran a real excellent campaign for Governor in November, made himself kind of likeable, stood up to outrageous campaign rhetoric from the dems.

John Kasich is a traitor to our Second Amendment freedoms. He was almost single handedly responsible for the assault weapons ban because of his behind-the-scenes betrayal of his Republican colleges. He also voted for the Brady law. The Republicans had successfully blocked the Assault Weapons Ban until Kasich negotiated a sellout with Leon Panetta.

John Kasich

I once thought Kasich had presidential potential, but now I know this traitor is nothing but a pathetic fraud. I'd vote against this shyster if he was on my ballot for city dog catcher!

I've known john k before he became a congress critter, and over time, his views have gone from very conservative to semi-conservative, to rino-conservative, to bs-conservative, to governor of Ohio, which is where he can stay.

Piss off, john.
