Secretary of the Air Force Deborah James has decided to celebrate Womens History Month by announcing a set of nine initiatives to increase diversity and inclusiveness in the service. The most notable is a new requirement that unless those aspiring to leadership roles can demonstrate their commitment to diversity and inclusion, they will not be considered for promotion.
James first declared the changes on Wednesday during a Women and Leadership in National Security conference at the Center for a New American Security, and justified the new initiatives by proclaiming, Theres simply no country in the world as widely diverse as the U.S.
According to James, while theres been some movement toward diversity in the past, it hasnt been enough. This new strategy will ensure that the service is able to continue to attract the most talented and able minds. Career-field-development team chairs are now required to conduct analyses to figure out what is blocking airmen from reaching their highest levels of performance, as James put it, according to Air Force Times.
Out of all services in the military, the Air Force has the highest percentage of women at 18.9 percent, but the female attrition rate is twice that of the male attrition rate during mid-career phase.
One of the initiatives coming to the forefront will allow top performers to take up to three years off without risking prospects for future promotion. Additionally, James wants to see more women take up the role of pilot, as this job category is usually dominated by men. But because the exclusion occurs as a result of height requirements that is, a standing height of 64 to 77 inches and a sitting height of 34 to 40 inches James has elected to modify the waiver process. Previously, the waiver could only be offered to Air Force Academy Cadets, but James will expand the process to include Reserve Officer Training Corps cadets, meaning that 900 women will now be eligible to become pilots.
For James, women should constitute more than the 25 percent of the applicant pool thy already are. Instead, that rate should be boosted to 30 percent.
This is not just about how we look. Its about our readiness. Its about our capabilities today and for the future. Its about how we are going to perform as an Air Force
in this very uncertain geopolitical environment, James stated at the conference.
“If it Bleeds, it leads”???
Motion Seconded. On all counts.
we’re going to need a Military sized enema to get rid of these morans when Obama is gone.
Rule #1. Military is not a good place for social engineers and feel good wansy pansies.
Spread the rumor. Save the names of people who come up with stupid things like this and demand their release from Active Duty.
Rules, unnecessary rules of engagement (oh and social engineering), as well as politicized military leadership in the Pentagon and Admin.
“.. in this country, we have Air force Generals that has never flown a plane, and Naval Admirals that has never commanded a ship. All of them are POLITICAL APPOINTEES. OBAMA has forced all our fighting generals to retire, and all our fighting admirals to do the same.”
It’s worse than that. He cleaned out the military all the way down to Majors, getting rid of any and all with those hangy down things I guess.
Deborah James will be recorded in history as a clueless idiot (almost used a sexist word there lol) who destroyed a fine organization.
I hated writing APRs, but I am glad I retired when I did. I can't take this PC garbage.
How about instead of diversity we concentrate on the most capable. This is one more thing that will get a whole bunch of our people killed
This is so gay.
All I can think of it the reaction the 80000 men who died over Europe in WWII would have to this...for starters.
Nope, the surviving “FIGHTING GENERALS” were in the Pacific coast of Russia. Any “FIGHTING GENERAL” that were in the European side of Russia was eliminated. That was how Zukov survived the military purge.
No longer a meritocracy.
What Constitution? The voters said to hell with the Constitution in 2008, Give us a muslim. In 2012, they reaffirmed their choice.
So glad I retired
Already 76 comments, I’m not going to read before posting.
Pure and simple this equals potentially more women in combat by increasing the female pool for pilots. Frankly Scarlett if I was Secdef I’d have her ass canned. This is more obamaism on display.
...and I’m sure the sec def is probably unable to can the Sec of the AF as they are both appointed by the unnamed occupant of the White House.
I(n the interest of true diversity, why can’t all F-16 parts be installed in other aircraft? Of course reality is the biggest hurdle but why discriminate? Along this line I won’t even get into why F-117 panels can fit other birds as it’s racist.
I am sick of watching females and minorities getting awards for breathing, while white, straight males get ignored or punished.
The damage being done by this administration cannot be understated!
Imagine my surprise when I read my APRs and found out what a big proponent of POMO I was.
