It took me this many years, but I am now of the opinion that if we had paid a swift aerial visit to Mecca and Medina during the month of September of that fateful year we would be in a better situation now.

Thanks, Genoa, for the quote. How did rapture theology take over here? I dare not challenge it at church-they are all in for the rapture. Our pastor spends more time in the word than anyone I know, he gives expository sermons, but thoroughly dismisses any challenge to dispensationalism and pre-trib rapture. My husband forbid me to ever question a Sunday School lesson on the end times. He used to get angry when I tried to show him that the rapture is false theology, now admits that it is probably false but will not discuss it further; with me or anyone.

As Christians, I thought we were supposed to reason through scripture together. This is a false doctrine that has become untouchable.

Muslims, and unfortunately many Christians cannot accept the equality of women. Not to say that the sexes are identical. They fail to note that Jesus was very positive toward women, very advanced for his period. These Christians make the same mistake that most Muslims make by trying to live with the knowledge and cultural beliefs of 2,100 or 1,400 years ago. They also choose only one of the TWO creation stories told in Genesis. One story is that God created man and woman from the earth. This would make them co-equal. The other story is the more popular one (especially among men), that God took a rib out of Adam and made it into Eve. Thus she was subordinate to him. Many good Christians do not realize that these TWO different stories exist with their very different implications. Good luck with your husband. Perhaps you can relate better if you show him the part where God created man and woman together at the same time.

He works more than one job, one of them is pretty emotionally intense and time consuming. Add in the normal demands of a large family and money stresses and his plate is full. If he doesn’t want to have to deal with a problem that he isn’t confident about solving, he starts by telling me the problem does not exist. Weird, but he starts with denial, then concedes. His next step is to solve the problem if it has to be dealt with. My changed view of eschatology is a problem that he initially viewed (I think) as something that wasn’t relevant to our everyday and fairly demanding life. Telling his entire family (die hard dispentational believers) and our church family that they are wrong on one of their biggest beliefs is something that he doesn’t have the desire to deal with. Thus telling me to let it go and don’t go on and on with him about it; and to never bring it up in Sunday School.

Maybe sometimes I feel a tiny bit rebellious towards his having the final word when we disagree, but we are a team and it’s rare that we get to that point.

Alexander did the same thing and destroyed history, and judgment didn't come.
Good thing too, or we wouldn't exist.

It will be 5,000 times worse than this when Revelations begin. I doubt
we could even imagine it. I'll take my death before it happens, and
into heaven through Christ.

The way it reads it sounds horrific and cataclysmic on a scale I can’t imagine. Agree with you there.

What are dispentational believers? I was doing research on early American settlement patterns and learned about Scotch covenanters? What group does his family come from?

Most Evangelical and Baptist Christians in the US have a dispensational theology. In this, a dispensation is the divine administration of a period of time, a divinely appointed age. Dispensationalism is a theological system that recognizes these ages ordained by God to order the affairs of the world. Dispensationalism has two primary distinctives: 1) a consistently literal interpretation of Scripture, especially Bible prophecy and 2) a distinction between Israel and the church in God’s program.

At heart, his parents are fundamental Baptists. There are no churches near them so they attend an Alliance Church, but other than alcohol and dancing-the doctrines of faith are pretty similar.

We attend a fundamental Baptist church & the pastor has given sunday school lessons on this-showing why a non-dispensational interpretation of scripture is wrong.

Once I was saved, every church I attended has been dispensational in it’s theology; from a large non-denominational mega church, a quiet traditional covenant church to our little fundamental Baptist church. It’s all I have really known, yet after a friend challenged me on it & I spend much time studying, I no longer think it is the best way to view scripture. I certainly do not think we should wait around for a rapture, but it so ingrained in pretty much everyone we know (in and out of our church) that it seems overwhelming to challenge it anywhere. Even my kids tell me I’m wrong.
