Brian Williams is stepping away from NBC Nightly News for several days.
The anchor sent a note to the show's staff, announcing that Lester Holt is replacing him this week. The news comes as the anchor is embroiled in a scandal surrounding his story about being a passenger in a helicopter that took fire in the Iraq War.
Williams' message can be seen, below.
"In the midst of a career spent covering and consuming news, it has become painfully apparent to me that I am presently too much a part of the news, due to my actions.
"As Managing Editor of NBC Nightly News, I have decided to take myself off of my daily broadcast for the next several days, and Lester Holt has kindly agreed to sit in for me to allow us to adequately deal with this issue. Upon my return, I will continue my career-long effort to be worthy of the trust of those who place their trust in us."
More to come...

“On Drudge now...in red, with siren! Drudge seems to be having a lot of fun with it. The Lyin Williams pinocchio photo was up there all day.”
Williams must have done something to offend the LGBT community.

He’s down at the nursery school pushing over three year olds so he can tell everybody he was a boxer.

Five long years your old man carried this watch in his large colon after his chopper was shot down. Then of course he abandoned you and your Mother and went to work at NBC. Now, little man, I'm giving it to you, along with the cowbell that nearly killed him.

NBC needs to replace him with America’s most beloved Hussein Obama. The boy who can do no wrong.

I think he might have got away with it until he said
he was named after Sir Edmund Hillary.
No one would be brazen enough to use a whopper like that!

What really bugs me is he won’t come out and say to us that he down and outright lied about everything.
He dances around with words like bungled and misrepresented. Just come out and tell the truth. How hard is that?

Worked for Jesse Jackson. IIRC, it only took him about a week to forgive himself for steppin' out on the Mizziz.

I will continue my career-long effort to be worthy of the trust of those who place their trust in us. That's probably a vanishingly small number at this point. Somewhere in furthest Uzbekistan, in a valley so remote they don't even get ESPN, lives a sheep herder named Urguk who still trusts Williams. The rest of us, not so much.
