People are so easily offended these days because they want to be offended. They should be thinking him.
Too bad he didn’t do this at an NAACP convention. Then it would have been okay.
I’ve never understood... why is “people of color” okay, but “colored people” is not? But then I’m just some white guy.
The NAACP could not be reached for comment.
Hope the Oscar votes are already counted!
devastated. DEVASTATED??!! Over calling people “colored”??? These people must be very delicate flowers!!!!
He should have just said he is a method actor and was in character as someone from the era when they used to be colored.
Wasn’t “people of color” being used all the time?
Welcome to Hollywood Mr. Cumberbatch.
The National Association for the Advancement of COLORED PEOPLE is not amused!
Only they, and the United NEGRO College Fund are allowed to devolve back down into linguistic history to use those terms to get MONEY from stupid white people... for shame...
There is an explanation. Those who consider themselves an oppressed minority are never going to be happy with whatever terminology is used to describe them. They will become offended by any term which enters majority use. Therefore, every term for black people, including black, which has been demanded during my lifetime, has then been rejected as being insulting.
Let’s just cut to the chase....the term is now “Amfrericans”
Are you sure? I thought the current PC term was 'teens'.
I wish someone would explain why “colored people” is such an offensive term while “people of color” is not.
Skating on thin ice here. At this point,we do not know what is the accepted descriptor for this week and we will not be told until someone is offended. Offended to the point of calling a presser and proclaiming their victimhood.
Black? African American? British African-American? African African-American? Darkie, Colored, Person of Color? Nubian?
I'm old enough to remember when that term was considered the *politically correct description.
PC sucks the big one.
Cumberbatch should tell the PC crowd to shove it up their collective Obamaholes.
But, being the normal “gotta be liked” weak minded actor, he’ll bend over to get rainbowed.
I’m so very glad we have a few (very few) actors with brains and cojones a la Clint Eastwood.
