They had scored hundred and four points by halftime. I imagine the final score would have been higher if the first team played the second half as well. The second or third team should have played the whole game without the full court press. This coach is a classless jerk.

Agreed. These are kids, and while they should be encouraged to excel, excellence is not just a matter of scoring more points, but of winning with class and grace. If this had been a professional game, certainly you do what you get paid for and outscore the other team by as much as possible. I would like to think a kid's coach is paid at least as much to cultivate the character of his wards as he is to teach them mad basketball skillz.

Several questions for those of you upset with the winning coach: 1) beyond eliminating the press and benching his starters for the entire game what SPECIFICALLY would you have done? 2) Is there a particular score margin a coach is not to exceed? 3) Is there a danger of a perceived mocking of the less skilled team by not playing hard? 4) What instructions would you have given the third string as they entered the game—something like “Have fun but don’t score any points . . .”
