Oh, woe is she. In an "exclusive" interview with People magazine this week, first lady Michelle Obama lamented the "sting" of "racist experiences" that she and her husband allegedly still suffer. My message for America's Marie Antoinette? Cry me a river.
To show how she's down with The Struggle of post-Ferguson agitators, Mrs. Obama cited a supposedly horrifying incident at a Target store where she was treated, in her paranoid mind, as a subservient. "Even as the first lady," she bemoaned, "not highly disguised, the only person who came up to me in the store was a woman who asked me to help her take something off a shelf."
A lowly peon asked her for an innocent favor? It's Jim Crow all over again! ABC News reports that Mrs. Obama said such "incidents are 'the regular course of life' for African-Americans and a 'challenge' for the country to overcome."
Newsflash: Oh, deep in my heart, I do believe that it is part of the "regular course of life" of tall people of all colors (Mrs. Obama is 5-foot-11) to be prevailed upon to reach high on behalf of those of us who are vertically challenged. These are not odious "incidents" of racism between slaves and masters. They're matters of common courtesy between equals.
So overcome your ridiculously hypersensitive, privileged self and deal with it, girl! (And now don't get all hot and bothered about the "girl" thing. Sheesh.)
There is, of course, a truly insidious "-ism" at work here: Cynicism. Mrs. Obama's dissemination of her false racial narrative in a popular celebrity rag is cunningly calculated to pander to America's aggrieved leftists. We know Mrs. Obama's victim sob story is a steaming pile of rotten turnips because the last time she talked about The Incident, it was a feel-good late-night talk show anecdote devoid of discrimination.
On David Letterman's show in 2012, the haute-couture-clad first lady recounted the same "incognito" Target visit to demonstrate her just-like-you bona fides. She chuckled as she shared how the shopper asked: "Can you reach on that shelf and hand me the detergent?" As the audience laughed with delight and Mrs. Obama grinned from ear to ear, she told Letterman: "I reached up, 'cause she was short, and I reached up, pulled it down -- she said, 'Well, you didn't have to make it look so easy.' That was my interaction. I felt so good."
From overjoyed Regular Mom to Oppressed Martyr, can Mrs. Obama's shopping fable get any more absurd? To paraphrase a popular slogan of the social justice mob: Jig's Up, Don't Compute.
It just goes to show you: Once a race hustler, always a race hustler. The first lady demonstrated a willingness to employ accusations of racial oppression for political gain from the earliest days of her adult life. Take Mrs. Obama's senior thesis at Princeton University, titled "Princeton-Educated Blacks and the Black Community." Decrying her racial otherness, the Ivy Leaguer accused her university of pushing her down the dreaded path toward "further integration and/or assimilation into a white cultural and social structure that will only allow me to remain on the periphery of society; never becoming a full participant."
Yet, while regaling campaign crowds with complaints about bias, burdensome education loans and the beastly lily-white corporate world, Mrs. Obama neglected to mention that it was a white male Princeton alum who went beyond the call of duty to bring her from her imagined "periphery" to the center of power.
As I recounted in my book "Culture of Corruption," Sidley and Austin corporate law partner Stephen Carlson offered the elite student generous career guidance and mentoring while she was an undergrad and then reached out to her again when she was at Harvard Law. She secured a coveted job as a summer associate in 1987, accepted a full-time job upon graduation and never looked back. Mrs. Obama, perpetual victim, hopped from Princeton to Harvard to prestigious law firms, cushy nonprofit gigs, an exclusive Hyde Park manse and a crony corporate board appointment before landing at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
Only in America is such upward mobility possible by a thin-skinned incessant whiner who has fabricated racial tall tales all the way to the tippy-top of the ladder of opportunity. God bless the U.S.A.
SO full of s&^%
That she would call these hard working folks "the help" just shows what kind of people they are. Disgusting!
Well, she IS a victim - after all, she only got $300K/yr for doing nothing at that Chicago hospital. Poor baby.
The First Beard does not like being asked to perform a common courtesy.
WOW! The people in Target didnt bow and scrape before her! Terrible!
Have any of you ever been asked to help someone in such a store or in the grocery store? I certainly have and was glad to do it. Was I considered “the help?” Yes, the person thought I might be employed by the store. I used every kindness I had to help or to find someone who could for that person. That is the way to peace and unity and North Korea and others are getting ready to show America that it is insane to be subjected to this kind of racial pettiness day in and day out. Soon this will be forgotten as we will have much bigger worries to occupy us.
The Obamas know that when they are out of power they will just be two more unassimilated government-dependent minorities. The fact that he was elected twice has done nothing to diminish their insecurities or racial animus.
My friend considers anyone who greets me or speaks to me first, rather than to her when we are together in public, racist.
It doesn’t matter if it is someone I know and she doesn’t, or if the greeting is a casual, “Hi, you, and companion-who-I-don’t know.”
The hypersensitivity is overwhelmingly confusing.
It’s like mentioning someone’s color. If I don’t mention what color someone was in passing, “They are a nice middle-aged couple who comes here occasionally,” she asks why I don’t mention their race.
If I do say, “They are a nice middle-aged black couple,” she asks why I mentioned their race because I wouldn’t note it if they were white, would I?
You can’t figure out where the lines are because the lines get moved constantly.
It is getting to the point of avoidance.
If she is educated as she proclaims, I think after thinking about this she will realize it wasn´t the proper thing to say. I feel sorry for her.... a lot of expectations and she asked for the job. Harry Truman said, if you can´t stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen.
I have to ask - Why was she in Target, especially the laundry detergent aisle, in the first place? I seriously doubt that she does her own laundry.
GETTING to the point of avoidance? I would have given that “friend” a good lecture awhile ago. She would then, however, assume that you’re a racist for telling her how warped she is in her thinking.
The black descendent of slaves in Mississippi has more in common with Sven Svensson of Duluth, Minnesota in terms of common American ancestry and experience than he does with Barack Obama.
Michelle isn’t quite as removed from the so-called authentic black experience but she still enjoyed a rather privileged upbringing.
The daily passion play of race is beyond tiresome, especially given that it’s merely a vehicle for their egos and a sad, desperate attempt to retain relevancy and elicit sympathy in their lame-duck days when all concerned are sick of the pair of them.
She goes shopping to a discount store (?!?) without a security detail (?!!). Yeah, right. It’s not even a clever lie.
I reached 6” tall when was 12 years old, and I’ve been asked dozens of times since to help with getting an item for a shorter person.
In addition, from my upbringing at home and in the Boy Scouts, I’ve been taught to be helpful. I’ll even offer to help before they even have to ask—imagine that. Actually, I don’t think self-absorbed, bitter people can.
It’s odd that such an oppressed minority has quite literally rebuilt the entire world in every measurable way, based SOLELY on the color of his skin...and is somehow a victim.
He bent the will of/used and abused whites, asians, latinos, all other races and skin tones, to conform to this will. PURELY because of the blackness of his skin. Not because of his good ideas. None were. Not because lives got better. Only those of his cronies improved. But because the power of his blackness and that blacknesses ability to bring unwarranted guilt.
So Mich really doesn’t have a leg to stand on. Nor do any of the Occu-Furgs, the Al and Jessies or the college professor/droids. Because on 2014/15 Earth, Blackness is not a state of victimhood. It is not a process or prerequisite of being victimized. The facts show Blackness has become the single most oppressing force on the planet.
And as the trillions upon trillions of dollars lost, countries lost, rebellions fomented etc, through the actions of Obama, the most retrograde force the planet has yet seen.
I’m pretty sure that her trip to Target was heavily covered by the press. I remember seeing pics and video. Do why no mention of this, let alone B reel footage, before now?
This just screams fake incident to bolster the narrative. Like Hillary coming under enemy fire in Bosnia, or the “Jackie” and Lena Dunham rape stories.
There was a good thread the other day about an article on how we live in a “post-truth” era where pesky things like facts and verification won’t be allowed to get in the way of a good story that serves to advance the Peogressive Agenda.
Did she mention the $150K job she had at U of Chicago she never had to show up for? Someone reach up and take that 2 ton chip off her shoulder.
Pray America is waking
Poor Oprah was miffed because Swiss salesperson would’t show her a $50,000 handbag.
