These are not just Peruvian sites. They are part of our common human heritage.
They should sue Algore.
It's not surprising anymore, one needs to go to the British press to see this kind of coverage. Here's a link to a Bing search for "Greenpeace, Nazca lines, Peru"
Yahoo news had it yesterday. Reuters and the British press was all over it, even RT Russian Today was on it. sfgate also had it.
My thoughts exactly.
Doh , Greenpeace never heard of Photoshop ?
“Anyway, the figures were created by indians scraping away the dust in a strategic way.”
Rocks, not dust, were removed.
My understanding is that the stones, gravel, have been laying on the surface so long that the tops are backed black. You turn them over and the stones are white. So, the Nazca people cleared the area between the lines, which were stones turned up, creating white lines, leaving a sandy, dusty area in between.
Oops, “backed black” should be “baked black”.
Oops, you are right. The fine dust/sand layer is the white which is revealed when you clear the rocks off it. I do recall reading at some point though that the glyphs only exist because of the near total lack of rain. Basically put some sand down and a thousand years later it's still there. I guess the Greenpeace jerks walked on the lines themselves, embedding their footprints in them.
It is not the stupidity of the envirowhackos so much as their arrogance that concerns me. Those who KNOW they are correct will not listen to reason nor tolerate dissent.
Actually I would not shed a tear should Peru execute the Greenpeace terrorists.
From what I hear, Peruvian jails are not a very pleasant place.
Jerks.
Not going to happen, as Peru doesn't have a death penalty. That said, 8 years in a Peruvian slammer is something which *will* get these clowns' attention...
the infowarrior
It said that Kumi Naidoo, the International Executive Directort of Greenpeace, would fly to Lima to personally apologise for the offence caused.
A thread from three months ago:
Environmental hypocrisy? Greenpeace embarrassed by leaders jet-setting carbon footprint
Throw them all in Peruvian Prison for life. They’ll love it there.
Un$%#@ believable! The arrogance of Greenpeace is stunning.
.....and yet somehow they believe that stunts like this, and other idiocy they perpetrate, will further their cause................
